GR86 1st Service

Has anyone managed to book a service through Toyota online servicing link?
I have tried, but message I get
“No services available for this dealer, please select another one”.

It wouldn’t work for me, I had to call the dealer.

Thanks Nick, I better call them then. My first service is due on 20/01/24

First service completed without issue at FRF Toyota today, service guy I was dealing with even stayed late to hand the car over as I was delayed getting back.

£267 and change with the Toyota Owner’s Club discount which I’m happy with.

Does that discount work in all dealerships?

£320 while I waited at Abbey Toyota Redhill. Looks like they put too much oil in though. Maybe half a litre?

The difference between min and max is 1 litre, the extra on the stick looks a similar length, so Id say they've probably overfilled it by a litre.

I'll have to suck some out then. Lucky I've got one of those syphon things

Is it still high after standing overnight? You probably know the dipstick can show high on one side. Otherwise, that is crap service for a main dealer and makes you wonder what else was missed.

Had the service done on Friday. I checked it this morning so been driving it a bit like that. Apart from this Abbey have been great.

That's annoying, but if you have a look at the thread the the Engine and Performance section (https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/oil-starvation.4049/), I'm sure quite a few people have come to the conclusion that overfilling the engine oil by a litre helps reduce the risk of oil starvation when on track.

Not saying that it's okay for a dealer to do it, and it might be worth pulling them up on it just for the peace of mind....but just pointing out that hopefully that means you wont have suffered any ill effects as a result.

Have you checked the oil after running it up to temp the leaving 5-10 minutes. Makes a big difference. After my service checked cold mine looked like that but using the correct hot check its spot on.

Yes, you should measure the oil as you say, after up to temperature and standing for 5 mins.

I had mine booked in for service today at local dealers. I was told last Thursday they couldn’t get the oil filter and it could be as late as January until they could get one. I then asked how many days after the anniversary of registration date I could have the service without it affecting any warranty and they said 30 days. Mine was registered 17/12/22.

I’m more annoyed that they canceled the service late notice and made a lame excuse about Toyota not having a filter available, I don’t think anybody else has had this issue?
I have. Took my car in, they then realised they didn't have the filter and couldn't get one for a month. Had to go back.

Well I've had a chat with the local garage and it's booked in next month (an hours labour @ £72). Already ordered the filter and crush washer. As it's not getting done at Toyota, should I be getting the Toyota branded oil or can I go for the highly regarded Millers ?
Like this?

Had my first service at Jemca in Reading today, no obvious issues. I don't mind them cleaning and hoovering, so it looks a lot better now than it went in 😁

In December last year I booked my GR86 into a JDM specialist for its first service (due by 10th february), at a place over in the central belt of Scotland. In the same email I advised them to maybe order an oil filter, as (at that time) the stock wait was out to the end of January. Well, FFS! Roll forward to late last week and I get an email from them saying that they can't get hold of an oil filter until the end of February and if it's okay they'll re-book me in when they've got one in... So that would be the GR86 service outside of Warranty then, eh?! Maybe that's why I advised you to get one back in December eh? Monkey brains! "NO", says I, "because I DID plan ahead and bought a filter and washer for this exact reason. So use mine and adjust the invoice".
Honestly, as Grandmaster Flash might say, "It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how they keep from goin' under.."

First service completed today. Cost £126 at an independent JDM specialist. I supplied the filter/washer. He took the time to point out many other ‘areas for improvement’; such as underbody preservation requirements, the lack of attention to detail wrt the caliper spraying (Skidz), wheel coatings issues (Ecosse Powder Coatings), rusty oil filter seal (Toyota) but, he also offered some good hints about engine bay preservation and where to put it etc. I got to go all around the car and underneath whilst on the ramp to take some photos. A worthwhile visit, if only to gaze at his supercharged GT86 too. 🤓
