GR86 1st Service

Picked mine up last night, no further issues apart from Radio taking a hissy and giving me no sound but went back they checked for codes and blown fuses, typically all worked when the tech jumped in and its been fine since.

Can't really fault Parks Toyota Inverness, kept informed and dealt with issues the way I requested with no fight.

No wash or hoover requested, service manager and tech just burst out laughing and said we assumed you would request this.

Had my first service cancelled last minute as they hadn't received the oil filter. I asked whether they could use an equivalent Subaru part and was told absolutely not if the car is still in warranty. Finally got the car in for the service and noticed that they have actually used a Subaru oil filter.

That's so frustrating.

My first service booking was also postponed by a week, but at least they didn't lie to me about the oil filter being a dedicated Toyota one (they did manage to damage my parking sensor, but that's another story...).

It's clearly the same Subaru part number as the filter I bought last year for my 1000 miles break-in service:

How does one damage a parking sensor?

They also lied to me about cleaning the car went I requested they not touch it. It doesn't take a detective to tell the difference between a car that has and hasn't been cleaned in winter!

I was debating changing dealerships for the next service but it sounds like they're all as bad as eachother!

Where was yours serviced? I’ve a few months to mull over what dealership to use or whether to avoid the network in favour of a specialist. I’m in the south too but I’ve no issues travelling an hour or so when the time comes if there’s a trustworthy dealership that will take care of the car properly.

Honestly, you couldn't make it up! Do these dealership spanner monkeys actually have any idea of what they are working on?! Jeezo, they need a rocket up their a$$.
Imagine the joy of taking that one to the small claims court: [Dealer]"The customer used a Subaru Oil Filter M'lud so we terminated his warranty". [Judge] "What type of filter is fitted as standard from the factory mr car dealer?" [Dealer] ".. er, a Subaru one M'lud".
Edit: Maybe you should go back and berate the service manager for fitting the wrong filter and voiding your warranty. I wonder what they’d say?! ;)

I would guess the dealership need to show the oil filter on a service invoice to the customer to avoid any potential warranty claim issues, so it is demonstrably a genuine part supplied via their parts department. I think for my own peace of mind as the customer I’d want this, too.

I totally take the point the Subaru filter is as fitted, but unfortunately warranty claim administrators rarely look beyond the obvious, apart from when they’re auditing the dealership, when they take great delight in revoking claims on the merest technicality.

I get that, but my dealer was quite happy for me to supply my own filter and not interested in seeing the Subaru invoice.

Same story here. Today’s service cancelled at 430 last night due to lack of filter - confirmed ‘none in group’ which given it’s Steven Eagle makes other options not existent.

I've got all this to do in February time, it's not filling me with much hope. I have a choice of two dealers (one closer to home, the other closer to work), both in the same 'group'. One is a 'GR centre and the other one not.

It may be worth ordering filters and any other service parts now ahead of time from a main dealer to avoid the issue when the car goes in for the work. You’ll have a dealership invoice as a record for the parts albeit separately from the labour on the booking so I can’t see there will be any warranty issues.

I’ve just had my service rebooked because they didn’t have the filter and it was on back order until 20th of January. Tried to call them to save myself the trip but Steven Eagell Northampton notoriously do not answer their phone.

Anyway, I asked for a discount and booked for a Saturday 🤷🏼‍♂️

Mine was due for oil change tomorrow at Lindop Toyota Chester. I asked to confirm filter stock to save a wasted journey and there’s none in till 17th Jan. Have re booked for 18th.

I had mine booked in for service today at local dealers. I was told last Thursday they couldn’t get the oil filter and it could be as late as January until they could get one. I then asked how many days after the anniversary of registration date I could have the service without it affecting any warranty and they said 30 days.

So if you have your service 20 days after the anniversary, will the 2nd year service need to be within 30 days of the 2nd anniversary, or will it be within 30 days of a year from the first service?

I believe each time car is serviced you reset the clock for the 12 months. In theory in 10 years you can forward the clock for a 10 months. Oil and other oily bits, not going to fall apart day after 12 months.

Thanks. Quite useful. Although I'm not sure you're right about the 10 years and 10 months, as I think the warranty can be extended up to 10 years, and the fact that the last service would have been done 2 months before the 10 years probably doesn't change that.

Depending on how many miles I do, I might do half yearly oil changes anyway. But it's not about whether they fall apart after 12 months, it's more about Toyota's rules. Breaking the rules can break the warranty, even though it's quite clear that what you've done won't have damaged the car.
