GR Yaris ðŸ‘Ž Negatives - what annoys, disappoints, puzzles and generally irks you about the GR Yaris?

It's an antenna, probably for the DAB.

If you're worried about the asymmetric nature of it, can I suggest replacing the steering wheel with another glovebox to even things up at the front ;-)
Very good ;)

I don't like you cannot use cruise (not even non radar) in 'everything off' mode If there is a section of average speed in the middle of some A / B-road blasting - then it means more button presses

The problem is it’s one of those cars where if Toyota had gone to town with everything then it would have been £75k+ and few people would justify that for a hatchback. But quite a few components underneath are already looking tired and rusty on mine after only 9 months. Typical Japanese car really. I’m not too bothered because I’m not expecting to eat my dinner off of it but a few of the bushes look like they’ve done 40,000 miles not 4,000. Weren’t some people saying the front diff mount was shot after only a thousand miles?

Yet the engine, electrics and gearbox will last forever which is why I'm here.

Toyota will replace a lot more stuff under warranty than a lot of others which is also why I'm here.

Some t**t sold the other forum and fkd it which is also why I'm here lol

Hazard warning lights when braking.

Is it turn-off-able?

I think this morning there must have been a dozen or so cars coming towards me that thought I was warning them of something in the road ahead of them

Right then, buckle up those of a highly sensitive or ego led disposition, I'm about to balance off my positive post with my dislikes:

1) The exhaust note just isn't fitting of this kind of car
2) Lane departure needs turning off every journey
3) The multimedia system is angled at the passenger in UK models, not the driver
4) The handbrake is rubbish for parking (my car will roll without being in gear)
5) There are quite a few rattles I've had to attend to, worst of which is the glovebox lid which had stupid amounts of play in it
6) The visibility between mirror / screen is poor (so I'm buying the bracket thingamajig)
7) The brake pads dusting is bad, but then the pads work so well I'm inclined to overlook this
8) The underfloor storage in the boot could have been more intelligently set up (I'm being really f****g pedantic now!)
9) Given it's a homologation special, I wish more GR/TRD options (brace / undertray / upgrade exhausts etc.) were available from factory to keep warranty intact
10) The position of the USB socket in relation to phone storage doesn't seem that well considered, however I've routed a long charging cable behind dash and out of the back by the ignition button that not only hides cable, but stops phone flying off the shelf!

I know 10 seems like a lot, but in the grand scheme of what this car does right it's just mild annoyances. Apologies if you fundamentally disagree with the above, it's just my opinion!

I'm not aware of it, but there was a thread lurking around with some coding options for the car. Maybe it was one of those?

i was moaning about this the other day - they could have tucked that battery in the corner or used a smaller lightweight one

Don’t forget that it is also designed for the water spray bottle there and no doubt weight distribution.

Regarding the post above I suggest you need to get your handbrake looked at.

Least it's not like my Meg, were they gave the start button, the boot catch, the hand brake to the passenger, as well as filled a large portion of the glove box with a fuse box.

the fact that there are two wee holes behind the Yaris badge on the bootlid.........if only i had done my research before trying to debadge!
Paint the Yaris badge dark grey or black with Plasidip and refit it.

i put the "Four" badge there from the boot.

but

the point is, who else puts holes for badges these days. It is pure annoying.

The screen is dead straight (it’s been measured with lasers by someone). But screens in most cars are angled at the driver, so it does appear to be angled away.

Love how quiet it is most of the time, sometimes it would be nice to sound a bit more interesting.

The rest I agree with. Handbrake can hold the car if you give it a good tug, but it’s the brake drum variety so never going to be that good. The benefit is when cooling down on a trackday it won’t start rolling away, as the shoes are on the inside of the wheel.

Aren’t most cars running a drum handbrake?
