GR Yaris Ecutek, A-cams, & misfires

On this topic Litchfield aren't responsive, so i'm health checking my own logs for piece of mind.
  1. Knock Correction Angle, which appears to be the instantaneous knock response from the sensor. The EcuTek dev car has always been based around -3deg and it counts up until it commits that increase into the Knock Correction Learned parameter, when it resets to -3deg and continues to measure knock sensor output and correct the ignition. tis value can be changed, if set to 0 it wont add ignition only ever remove it.

To be clear i've understood -3 is no correction needed. Anything lower e.g -3.1 means real time correction based on possible knock. When this gets down to -4 it starts committing to long term correction. Same applies in the upward direction -2.9 & up gives you timing advance. -1.9 starts adding timing to the long term stored number.

Is that accurate yes/no?
This is what I have also understood, after watching some Japanese YouTube videos on the topic, with automatic dubbing 😅

The max value for the long term stored number is 24.1, and below 18 it starts to seriously reduce performance. As far as I have gathered, you want to be sitting in the 20+ range.

Is there a way to reset this long term in the ecu?

(…the Knock Correction Learned Value)

Why would you want to? It's a safety mechanism. Run a few tanks of higher octane and it will learn up.I know it Is there for safety.

I just added an octane booster and don’t want to wait a couple of tanks

Just checked in Techstream what my actual value is.
And this Knock Correct Learn Value at the moment is 21.9
So if the max is 24, there is room for improvement I guess🙂

For reference, mine is currently 24.3, was 24.5 right after replacing spark plugs... I would think you are losing some top end power...

Thank you for this information👍🏼

If you do a 5th gear pull from 2k RPM, the value very quickly adjusts.

Keep in mind, the value is split in two. There is one knock correction learned value for sub 4k RPM, and then once you cross over 4k, it switches to the other value.

Fuel quality seems to matter a lot. I filled a brand new tank of 98 octane any my values were sitting on high 21s and low 22s. Then a fresh tank from a different station brought me up to the 24 range.

According to some japanese youtube video I watched a while back (I think it was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wdLpvu-p58), they tested a car with low knock correction learned values, and they were losing well over 50hp when it was below/around 18, which can be the case even on stock cars if the car is not happy with fuel/spark plugs/injection etc.

I don't think its effect on power is linear. Being anywhere in the 20-24 range doesn't seem to change power a huge amount, but somewhere close to 18-19 the car loses a lot of power.

Hi CerN, thanks.
So excuse me @ TheManWithTheStick.
As I don’t want to hijack this thread I opened a different one on this matter and copy CerN’s into the other one for future reference.

All good @ MarcoB, my concern was resolved diagnosed and all this is good info so was happy to have it here. Now following yours as well
