So, I understand that this is a different "product" to the initial warranty and comes with its own terms and conditions.

In the UK too, one of these stipulates parts & fluids used, including engine oil, to be Toyota. That's OEM, not just as per to Toyota spec. Not entirely sure if this also means "provided by the dealer", but this is the least of my worries.

I may even be able to stomach using Toyota engine oil, if its labels adhere to what's on the engine oil cap, despite this essentially meaning that I will be paying more for less, ie inferior quality compared to the best aftermarket ones.

I need to clarify if using aftermarket parts or fluids invalidates the Relax warranty for that area of the car only or as a whole. Ie, if I use an aftermarket rear diff oil, do I lose the warranty for the rear diff or for everything the Relax warranty covers.

Thank you @Armijs for bring this to my attention through your posts:

Hey, as far as I know, that might only pertain to Baltics, but as far as I understand BUT I might be wrong, from the gist of it, all the parts of the maintenance after initiall warranty have to be OEM toyota ones for relax warranty to be honoured.

UK dealer said over the phone a very similar story to yours, ie it was recently communicated to them that the Relax warranty requires parts & fluids provided by the dealer (they probably meant that these are required to be Toyota OEM).

That seems fair, considering they are then extending the warranty a year.

Was there any mention of the the six monthly safety check which I understand is required for the normal warranty in the UK, at least on the Mk 1 car?

Apparently Toyota GB wrote publically that the use of alternative fluids would not have an impact on the warranty of the vehicle, provided the correct specification is used.

That was in response to a question about this extra warranty specifically.

Therefore, in terms of what I have in black and white for the UK (ie the warranty T&Cs and Toyota's post above), doesn't require Toyota OEM oils & fluids to be used for servicing to maintain the extra warranty. The only substantial difference I can spot is that, unlike the manufacturer (aka initial) warranty, the car needs to be serviced at a Toyota official garage for the extra warranty (Relax, additional or however it may be called) to be (service-)activated.

Just resurrecting this thread to save those asking TGB what their standpoint is.

It's been confirmed via email from TGB themselves that despite what the Customer relations reply from the thread in the quoted post says, only Toyota supplied fluids may be used by a Toyota service agent to trigger the additional 12-month Service Activated (Relax) Warranty. There is simply no flexibility on their internal system to process the invoice without the correct and verifiable Toyota part numbers - without them, the service activated warranty cannot be generated.

For some, this probably won't even be a consideration once you get through your 3 or 5 year standard warranty as it's cheaper to get your car serviced else where with better fluids - for others who want to keep the warranty intact and have a FDSH, it's Toyota service parts or nowt!

I think this is one of the few cars where potential buyers should be looking for a specialist service history rather than dealer history.

Seems like that can invalidate the extended warranty, which is the main reason I bought my 21 GR from Toyota recently. I know it only had to be serviced by Toyota to extend the warranty, but it had been owned by Toyota from new. And they did fit new PS4S tyres to a car with under 3k miles on it. It's not due the next service until November, but it's the £600 one, though I see Toyota parts direct are around half the price for the genuine engine oil and filters. So could my local Toyota dealership refuse to accept me supplying those genuine Toyota parts?

That’s what it says above. You need to pay full whack as the system won’t show a proper service if you supply the oil.

Seems a cop, out if all the parts are in Toyota bottles/boxes with a receipt from a Toyota dealer.

You understand wrong. It’s not required for the warranty in the UK.
When I set up my service plan to go up to year nine I asked him to go check with someone about the 6 month service regarding warranty. He came back 15 mins later and said he had phoned head office and they said it has nothing to do with warranty - just a safety check. He actually said it is a waste of time and money for me when it is just used as a very low mileage road car.
I can only go on what they told me!

Exactly. I don’t know why Toyota still offer it.

haven't done the safety check at 6 months ever always seemed like a bit of a rip off, last I saw it's £75 quid for them to look underneath the car and check tyres and mats, I can do that myself thank you, since it's fairly modded warranty is likely void in most areas now anyway so most likely wont have the 5th birthday service at Toyota anyway
