Just noted the date - 20th April, as it is.

Two years ago today, I, along with many others, sat poised just prior to 10am on my device of choice, waiting to try my luck at ordering one of these hallowed GR86s, of which there would definitely only be 400 and when they were gone they were gone and they would definitely have excellent features such as an auto-dimming rear view mirror and an alarm.

Happy two-year anniversary first-batch comrades. Apparently "cotton" is the two-year anniversary thing, so I may treat my car to a wipe with a soft cloth.

Man what a stressful day that was. I remember doing the same, even took a morning off work so I could sit refreshing the order page. Just checked and I got my order confirmation at 10.04am :D

A tardy 10.17 for me!

Thanks for the reminder - it was indeed stressful.

Even though I had "registered my interest" in August 2021 I never got the email with the link for ordering so I had a few minutes of panic after I realised that I couldn't navigate via the Toyota website at 10am.

Luckily someone posted the link on Pistonheads so I was able to get my order in at 10:19 and took delivery on 3rd January.

I may have skulked out of the office in an attempt to place an order only to find the site had crashed, system down and had to presume I had zero hope. Fast forward an hour or so and a half hearted check left me pleasantly susprised that I was able to place an order. One of the famed gone in 60 minutes never to be repeated ever again first and only batch. I must have been at the tail end of the first allocation as mine didn’t surface until almost a year after the order was placed.

I was 10.18 and a silver 86 like yours. Mine was then collected from the dealers on 21st December. What a painful time that was…..after ordering I was expecting delivery in August 22…then when that passed I honestly didn’t think I would be getting it til summer 23….turned out to be a great Christmas present

I was doing some painting for someone that morning and didn’t get on my phone until after lunch, what a fool! I put my name on the waiting list but didn’t expect to hear anything. We then went to Goodwood FoS a couple of months later and had a sit in one there and totally fell in love 😍 It all worked out well in the end though, I got mine in August last year.

Caption Competition?

My go: "Hmm - something about the position of this steering wheel isn't quite right..."

;)

Apart from the steering wheel, was there anything different to the one you bought?

I initially left a deposit with my local dealers, who a number of days later rang and informed me that it was all happening on-line and they would be out of the picture as far as the ordering went (got my deposit back!). I managed to get on and do the order thing, but it was all a bit panicky as I was sat at my desk supposed to be working! Then the great pause as nothing happened . . .
Finally took delivery 11th February last year - and I've done over 11000 miles already

Sh1te day for me.

Sat down at 09:58 and used the dealers link, nothing! Same again all the way to 10:20, rings dealer 15 minute wait.

Go on line (this forum I think), at 10:30 find the correct link and start the order gubbins. A poor set of coincidences were conspiring to fudge up something I’d being waiting months to do.

Pre that day it was deposit money at the dealers, which as you know was returned when TUK decided on line only.

Think it was 10:41 before the stamp of transaction was completed, with a promise of delivery by August 🤣

I almost changed my desired silver order to black, because it said 12 weeks delivery vs 13 weeks for the silver...

Went online just before 10am, couldn't find a link to order from.
After a bit I just guessed at it by changing the URL for buying an Aygo to 'GR86' and I got started.
It was very slow though and I actually gave up for a while but, after about 20 minutes, went back and had another go.
Seemed to work better until I needed to register for MyToyota and discovered that I already was, but didn't know the credentials, so had to reset the account.
Eventually got finished at 11:33 (so outside the magic 90 minutes).
I then waited nearly 17 months to take delivery.
