GR86 What car did you previously drive ?

Amazed I never saw it about - you’re quite local to me!

Evora’s are brilliant - I was sorely tempted when I bought my Elise, but it was either a new Elise or two year old Evora, with increased running costs.

Where are you from? I’m Bedford.
Used to go to Ciros meets at Sharnbrook etc.

Yeah Evora aren’t cheap to run. And doing a bit of research repairing isn’t that easy. Most engine repairs require the whole clam and engine out. Lotus parts support is pretty poor too getting cars back on the road can be slow.

I am on PH! I remember those meets - been to a couple but the Clophill one was my go to.

Lotus parts support is horrendous. They really don’t seem to give two hoots about anything pre Geeley era now. Unfortunately it seems the brand is just a means for another Chinese EV push.
 
2017 BRZ in WR Blue. Beautiful colour and TBH I wasn't a fan of the decals on the GT86.

Previous similar cars : manual BMW M3 Coupe 4.0 V8.

I think the 86 is almost as much fun at much slower speeds and feels safer…. Before the M3, I had a manual Mitsu FTO GP version R 2.0 V6. This was a great car, but FWD which is why the 86 wins hands down!

Out of all of these cars, I think the 86 is the best all-rounder!
 
For me - Austin Mini (owned by my girlfriend), then Triumph GT6, then Ford Fiesta XR2 (mk 2), then Citroen Volcane, then Audi A6, then BMW 318, then Audi A4 Avant , then Volvo V70, then Audi A5 Quattro, then BMW 320 Touring, then Jaguar XE, then BMW320 Touring again (but 330E hybrid).

None of them bad, but with the possible exception of the Mini - I prefer the GR86.
 
My path through Toyotas was: Celica ST162, Celica ST165, Celica ST185, Celica ST205 WRC, Celica T230, GR Yaris then GR86. Here is favourite of them all, the "FAFF", which still looks great after 30 years. Wish I'd kept it really:

The GR86 didn't really replace anything for me. In theory it is my new daily driver, to replace the truck that has been my daily driver for the last 4 years since I changed job and handed the company car back... so the little fleet grows....

"Other daily" is a Hilux surf, I have had it for well over a decade and it has been altered a lot, I think I have had nearly every nut and bolt undone apart from the boot, doors, and dashboard. - features a Lexus 1UZ-VVTi V8, Landcruiser rear axle, Tundra front brakes, adjustable suspension and I have a TRD supercharger that I have been meaning to fit for about 6 years.... It is utterly hilarious to drive on tall suspension and tall tyres, but can still run a 15.9 standing quarter (not fast, but fast for what it is). It sounds utterly mad.

Next up is the Westfield, originally a factory-built car in ‘95, has a build crossflow engine, also sounds great... I've pretty much rebuilt that too. I Hope to get it out of hibernation this year as for the last two years it has been boxed in by a kitchen and a parquet floor (all now fitted thank God)

Lastly a Camaro, has a serious knock, engine is half out but I got distracted redoing the house. I should probably fix that...



In terms of Toyotas, I have had a few! Celica, 3 MR2s, 2 Soarers, 5 Supras and the Hilux.

Yep they sure are rare, I think I have only seen one. I have a soft spot for White over Gold and Green over Gold (Sherwood Toning i think it called) as well, mine was Light Blue Mica (y)
