GR86 My Red GR86 - East Midlands

Fitted some new speakers - definitely worth the upgrade!

Put some sound deadening in the doors today after doing the rear a while back.
Went out tonight and the OH noticed how much quieter it was so must be worthwhile.

Was quite easy getting the door cards off and applying. Fiddly though and I didn't go overboard with trying to cover every square millimetre.

Was a bugger to flatten out but it was that warm I could flatten it down with my fingers and a plastic pry tool where the roller couldn't get to;

Giving a "knock" on the door in various places after certainly had a dead sound rather than a resonating one so must be doing something.

Hi. Sorry to drag up an old post but which areas did you put the sound deadening ? Am taking inspiration from your thread and installing the Focals, so figured I would do the sound deadening too!

For the doors I basically put as much on the inside of the outer skin as I could get too. Not every mm coverage but as much that's needed to stop the resonance.

If you gently tap the outside on and untreated panel, then when doing the same tap to a treated panel and it sounds like a dull thud rather than a ring sound, then that's what to aim for.

Think most of mine went below the metal fold for the window mechanism as I'm always scared it'll hinder the mechanism if I go higher / or I'll break something.

Ok thank you! Will do the same.

Back from it's first service at Toyota Loughborough. All went fine (they had an oil filter and plenty of free parking spaces) and back home. The recall software update was also done. As a treat he can have a while in the garage;

Dealers also found my GR Le Mans cap under the passenger seat - I'd wondered where that went!
Also got a little shopping trolley token for some reason 🤔

Recall software update? Just had mine back from its first service and this wasn’t mentioned. Any idea what it related to please?

Oh yeah I remember that now. Weirdly when I checked the recall .gov site a while back it had that listed, but it doesn’t seem to anymore and my car hasn’t had it done. Strange!

Back from the yearly PPF inspection and wash. All ticketyboo.

And we found out last week that the Christmas raffle we entered when the OH car was having it's annual inspection at the end of last year was won by us!!!

So we've got x20 free professional washes for the year :ROFLMAO: :cool:(y)

Is that something they recommended, and how much does it cost?

:love:
It's recommended to keep the 10 year guarantee bulletproof - but like MOTs - I like the knowledge that it's still as it should be. £90.
They didn't need to do anything to the GR86, but when the OH BMW was in, they recoated the rear window with ceramic as it'd been smashed and replaced and refitted a bit of bumper PPF that had a rock at it and had lifted an edge rather than smashed the paint to smithereens though.

We know them pretty well down there now (and more so as we'll be down there a couple of times a month getting free washes!) and they don't think twice about whatever it needs to go the car looking top notch. Must admit when they were moving a Lambo in the studio when I was there, it did make me jump as it was hiding behind the biggest Land Rover I've seen - a 130 Discovery I think - that was needing loads of Xpel!

Thanks

Reminds me I need to take mine in for a PPF check and a decontamination wash. It's mostly fine but i've got one bit of PPF that got dirt behind it I'll want sorting. Would decontaminate myself but never been 100% what's safe to use on PPF. The bits I did PPF have protected well.

I was told anything is ok to use but don't let stuff like TARDIS glue remover dwell in case it gets under and melts the glue.

Potential high cost life events incoming meaning I may need to free up as much funds as possible.
