GR86 Used price trend

The one of Collecting Cars was mine. Had a reserve of £28k which is the price I was offered by a dealer before Christmas, but they are now selling their demo so don't want mine.

It's been up for sale on various platforms without as much as an enquiry. I'm going to hold on until the spring and try again I think.
Wise move. Wait until the better weather, supply dries up and a few more articles and awards trickle in. For me, this car is a 10 year keeper and by god am I going to drive it every chance, in all weathers (on correct tyres) and smile for each mile. Who knows what type of regulations will force my choice of (second and final, maybe) retirement car!

If you can afford to just keep it. In 10 years time all we’ll be able to buy are milk floats that are forcibly limited to the 20mph speed limit that’ll end up every where. At least with this car you can escape to quiet b road or track and just enjoy driving.

I’ve send you a DM

It was a long way off then. Bear in mind at £28k, that’s costing the buyer over £30k which is not going to happen unfortunately. I would either take a dealer bid or sell it privately. CC are not adding any value to your sale for their £2k of fees, in my view.

Just look at the economy. No one is buying anything currently so prices are rock bottom.
I certainly wouldn’t be selling a car now.
One benefit I got just before Xmas is I got £2500 off a GR86 brand new.
I had the cash and took a punt. I’ll be keeping for a while so this blip won’t be an issue for me.
I’m ever the optimist, but really do think things may look a little different in a few month’s time with better weather, potentially an interest rate cut on the horizon, and a general settling of mortgage rates and easing inflation. I, like many others, have a few £ saved for a purchase, but am keeping a close watch rather than buying at the moment. I think many others are doing the same. I don’t usually finance cars, but I could never be comfortable with the 8.9% being offered on these at the moment.

If the world is slowly getting back to ‘normal’ after the early 2020s then getting 26k for a one year old 30k car doesn’t seem that unreasonable 🤷🏻‍♂️
That’s a good point

Yeah. The costs are a barrier, but it's a free service so I thought I might as well try.

Have other options that I can slowly explore.

I just walked by Vertu Leicester and they have what I think is their demo for sale at £29990

I doubt you’ll see £28k offered again.

This is it, if people were to lift their head up above the world of GR86s they will see it's the same with most things. I'm struggling to shift my GT86, my mate is struggling to sell his car, my neighbours house has been on the market for several months and has had 2 price drops.

Exactly, life is full of financial peaks and troughs. We are in a trough right now.
It will bounce back, for now just sit tight. If you need to sell then be prepared to be disappointed.
I’m 50 and seen this situation many times before, if the market stays stagnant no one can make money on investments.

Aside from the current economic context, I feel like the UK just got slightly too many cars in the end. If we’d gotten x amount less (50 maybe?) then there’d be a constant demand > supply situation. As it is we’re in a slight demand < supply situation. With obvious impact on used values. Maybe it’s stating the obvious, but a bit of pity all the same

1500 cars is still nothing in comparison.
A fair few of those will be written off over the next few years. Dailies will have big mileages on them and will be looking a bit tired. Those numbers will soon dwindle.

I beg to differ, it's all to do with the current economic situation, regarding supply and demand.
If interest rates weren't so high (mortgages and car finance), then more people would have gone out and bought a GR86 new. There wouldn't have been any problem selling all the cars that came to the UK and they possibly could have still sold a few more.

For the same reasons more people would be looking for a secondhand one now, if they missed out on a new one and could still afford to go and get one.
Demand and prices would (will) be higher in more buoyant times. It's still a rare and affordable car in comparison to the many run of the mill hatchbacks now in the £40k to £50k price bracket and it will always be an enthusiast's car.

It doesn't make sense for the used GR86 market to be strong at the moment, as you can still grab a brand new one at its retail price.

Wait till 2025 when the new (and pre-registered) GR86s are gone from the market, and the realisation that all brand new cars come with forced ISA "enhancements", to really see what the market demand is like for the last generation of old-school sports cars.

Selling right now is not a wise move, unless you have to, or anticipate WW3 to start before next year.

Some reading material for the curious:

There is the right time to sell for the market, but there is also the right time to sell for the seller.

I'm not in it for the resale value, I'm keen to move the car on for a price I'm happy with to allow me to get on with the next car to replace it. At the moment the car doesn't work for me and my family, and I need a solution that does. So whilst I'd like to 'wait for the market to come to me' it doesn't make sense. So there are reasons that make sense to sell now and let somebody else enjoy the car.

The real oddity is the people who want to buy the car, those who talk and then go dark for no reason. It's the slog of selling that I really don't enjoy, and the market doesn't make it any more fun at all.
