GR Yaris (Gen 2) Intelligent Speed Assist / ISA

you need to order JPN variants via Sweden. I think new RC would be sweet. if it lacks ISA - of course. ISA reminds of International Space Agency - maybe these rules are planned in space.

Instead of speeding, cars should follow the driver that person doesn't use cell phone or laptop while driving. Doing something else is much more dangerous than actual speeding. ugh, I've spoken. The strange approach in this legistlation seems to be quite common.

The people that make these rules are not drivers.

The EU is getting scarier and scarier every year, and more and more totalitarian, not just around cars, but about many things. So many scary suggestions up for consideration in the EU these days, getting more and more power in terms of deciding the national budgets of member states.

I'm not sure how effective a democratic system can be when you move the people in power further and further away from the voters with more and more layers in between.

I know it was popular to laugh about Brexit, but in hindsight I think the UK made a smart decision in the long term.

Yes, I am persuaded that the UK have done a smart move to Brexit. Maybe complicated in the beginning to get the economy running again, but hey look, they're getting their industry back on-line whereas here in France our government is throwing the baby out together with the bathwater... f... but let's stay on topic... it's GRY 2024 thread !

Which is all well and good but nothing the government has done or is doing is diverging us from regulatory alignment with the EU. Brexit means Brexit if Brexit means regulatory alignment with the EU to ensure trade continues. We're now a rule taker instead of a rule maker leading the charge in the European Parliament.

I could also talk about how migration is now higher than it was pre-Brexit, and less of it is coming from culturally aligned nations.

I was a remainer, but accepted the result. It's a shame we've not maximised the opportunity and instead we have EU-lite, minus the niceties of us Brits being able to live and work anywhere in the EU.

I still was under the impression that ISA could be turned off under the 2024 regulation.

Still think that the MK1 not having it though will be a huge resale point in the future.

Also let's face it, we are going to see some bold owners trying to retrofit lots of things.

If the MK2 comes out with heated everything in the UK, after they changed the entire centre console it'll be funny.

ISA is one thing, but atm you can switch it off each time you get in. Did you also know all cars are mandated to have telematics which send anonymised data to the EU on speeding? I fully expect to see a report in a few years using this data to show the true extent of speeding across the EU, with a view to making the limits permanent in the cars/unmasking the data and using it to fine motorists.

Honestly I'm half expecting a recall to make it so it's not possible to turn it off after a few years anyway.

I think safety sense 3.0 allows over the air updates, so they might be able to that it remotely
Yes it is. That's what I always say to people who think it's not that bad, or you can turn it off(@ the day). Yes, you can turn it off, but as soon as you briefly turn off the engine the entire process starts again. This was the only reason I sold a BMW because I was so annoyed that the steering wheel was constantly vibrating. You could also turn it off. But it started all over again every time... I don't have the nerve for something like that :).

If I hadn't been able to deactivate (permanent) everything in the GRY thanks to Yuri's help, I would have already gotten rid of it.

As my brother always says. I'm just a stupid old dinosaur :).

The steering wheel vibrates? That must be horrible and so distracting in itself.

Guessing the MK2 driving assist features are likely the same as in current new Prius.
few snapshots from its manual. Luckily the Driving assist can be turned off(?) from the menu.

At least there's Deceleration Assist (DA) And Steering Assist (SA) that both can input the car's controls if such is seen as needed.
It is not evident if selected ON/OFF status is permanent or does it need to be set up for each start separately.

Every time the car "thinks" you're driving too far over the edge, or crossing a line, or not signaling when changing lanes...
I had that in a previous car, was really off putting. You had to wrestle with the steering. Found it very poor when a dual carriageway merged into a single carriageway. Had to turn it off every time you started the car which was mildly frustrating.

fun to see if this driving assistance will be the game changer between mk1 and mk2. Does added annoyance overcome the nice technical feats they are bringing to the platform.
That's what I mean. Not having this shit is priceless. That gets on your nerves. I speak from personal experience. Some people might not mind that much. But for me personally, a car with these assistances is worthless. I had the BMW for a month and couldn't stand it any longer. When I think about it, every Lambo/Ferrari/Porsche whatever get this... Its over.

The hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

at least during Prius test drive the driver monitoring was bit annoying, it started beeping quite quickly when doing something (didn't even have to be anything that serious, just that car noted you are not maybe staring the road all the time or one hand leaving the steering wheel, etc.). For sure useful system to note driver that pay attention to road but overall it leaves bit annoyed feeling with the car. Bit the same as someone complaining your driving habits (constantly).

Im quite sure when ISA is more common for a majority of cars there will be ECU tuner to offer "delete" options for that, or something similar. Sounds like a good business opportunity ! :)
