GR Yaris (Gen 2) Intelligent Speed Assist / ISA

ISA should at some point automatically report speeding violations. That's a thought behind it. Anyone who still thinks that "programming it out" would have no consequences... Above all, it's not just ISA, a black box is now mandatory from July and so on.

I knew this was coming. If you think of it, it has been amazing that driving has remained so unregulated for so long time. It was basically a system out of control but historically it was accepted that two metal boxes weighing up to 3500kg or so could travel towards each other with 120mph speed difference (if not speeding) and pass with just a few feet between them, all with prone to distraction, drugging and medical failure organic operators that got a one-time license to operate a wide range of machines for all future until their systems so obviously fail that, hopefully, they voluntarily cease to operate said machines...

I can't wait until they go out into nature and pad every sharp rock or pointy twig!

Bad humour aside, I know you're right, but I can't help but feel a bit frustrated that I feel like I was born 20 years too late đŸ˜…

fun to see if this driving assistance will be the game changer between mk1 and mk2. Does added annoyance overcome the nice technical feats they are bringing to the platform.

For me, ISA especially that can be patched OTA is a total deal breaker. I expect as well given the regulations, and how quickly mobile standards change eventually it'll be illegal to have non functional black box too... and all bets are off if manufacturers will support these things on older models. I imagine these are all on 4G sims atm and at some point that'll obsolete.

As I say, I expect someone who is correctly motivated could apply the vast majority of the changes from a MK2 to a MK1 and whilst I don't expect it to happen any time soon, I do expect in the next decade it'll happen. Yeah, sounds like the seat rails are a pain to do, but I half expect most of the rest of the stuff is using the same mounting points as the original.

Especially once your insurance company insist it is always switched on

Of course ten years ago if you were told every car would nag you to death with speeding, and recorded everywhere you went that'd be catastrophising too I'd imagine.

At a certain point it's just predicting the inevitable.

If you think this won't end in per mile road pricing, and speeding tickets being issued automatically for ignoring ISA...

So this is where I always end up.... if you think it's going to happen, what are you doing to stop it?

Same with the WEF stuff... if someone believed that a global communist regime of universal serfdom was going to be taking over the world and enslaving their kids, they'd be doing more about it than moaning online about it.

And what mechanism do we have to stop it, any complaints are ignored. What we gonna do, glue ourselves to the road ;p It's not like people can take the Blade Runner approach like they have with ULEZ. That said, in ten years I probably won't be living in Europe anyway and it's in part to do with stuff like this.

Anyway, this isn't the point of this thread so we should move on.

ISA can be deal breaker, and potential OTA updates to ISA to make it more intrusive are a concern for potential buyers and that's really where we should leave that point.

I believe manufacturers are required to make it so that ISA can’t be disabled in the way many are proposing here. Not impossible of course but given how much modern cars run off computers nowadays even if you want to, it may not be possible without significant workarounds.

I digged around a bit. ISA is looking at traffic signs and digital Navi maps to spot speed limits. Thats the reason why nearly every new car now has navigation included. Saw a post of a guy, replacing his media system of his car with an aftermarket system without navigation. This led to speed assist not running anymore. When u block the relevant camera on top, the system should be out (similar to riding in my Audi while snow storm, you get the message "traffic sign detection deactivated")
We will find a solution together guys/girls! :) group effort hehe

Definitely ! Block the camera on windshield top & the radar transmitter in the Toyota badge forward. The system becomes blind, should do the trick, shouldn't it ?

The radar transmitter in the toyota badge is responsible for cruise control/lane assistant etc. Thats NOT what ISA needs. What you/we have to spot is the GPS transmitter and remove/block it. That thing is necessary to tell the system where you are and which speed limit is in place, referring to digital map. Anyone knows where the GPS transmitter is located in the GR Yaris?

GPS is passive, receiving only so it is a GPS antenna. They can be very small, smaller than a box of matches and usually would be located near the windscreen.

In the truck world, not having a speed recording is immediately a big fine for every single drive, then it's better to speed...

Tachographs have been mandatory in Germany since 1952 and EU 1986. Cars have had free reign for a long time... Is the mk2 the end?

"Error: No GPS signal found, limiting top speed to 60mph" :ROFLMAO:
