Although it does indeed come out of the original buyer's pocket, it's part of the original purchase price, so will be taken into account in the sale price too.

Yes, I picked mine up 11 days ago and just had to pay the £180 tax. It's easily the cheapest car I've ever had to tax!

I'm surprised that out of over 1000 cars, only 24 are autos.
 
Common as muck now then. At least the Electric blue will be relatively rare. I've only seen them at Japfest and the dealer one I demo'd.

That is a big increase. It makes sense, given how easy it became to get one. Either they had significantly upped the numbers, or no one wanted one. It's the former.
 
Not a surprise - was told by a reliable source in the summer and subsequently shared on here that we would have at least 1k registered by the end of 2023. Wouldn't be surprised if the final number is 1250 - 1500 when Q4 numbers are published.

I know you won't be alone in feeling that, but personally I don't mind at all. I bought the car because I think it's a great fun car at a fair price, not because I was hoping for some rare collectors item.

If we end up with 1,250 - 1,500, that's still not exactly common. What other cars are registered in similar numbers? (serious question, anyone know)

In recent times nearest I guess is alpine A110. A more expensive car and even more niche because of the price. I believe there may be 900 or so of those sold in the uk to date. Been around much longer too.

I think there were about 1300 Ferrari 458’s sold here (coupe and spider). Maybe 8-900 F8 tributo’s.

So far I think they shifted about 800 or so 992 GT3’s, came out a similar time as the GR86.

With regard to BMW ‘drivers cars’, the old shape M2 (16-21) shifted about 6500-7000, so a lot more. However only 1000 or so were manuals……..so 5500-6000 weren’t ‘drivers cars’ at all 🤭

All in all, still pretty rare I’d say. Plus if it’s up to, say, 1200 as of today, only 40 for sale suggests people do like them!

Oh, and before anyone says the alpine and Ferrari’s are auto too, there’s no choice with the Ferraris and the alpine would have sold a lot more I reckon if there was a manual option !

Don't really know why people are bothered. Having something rare is a pain in the arse, parts and support become difficult, higher insurance costs, long lead times, no oil filters.... wait what?

And quite a few are at unrealistic prices, so not really for sale at all. Mine's equally for sale if someone wants to give me £40k.

It’s true, I have 2 Italian ‘modern classics’, one only sold 60 in the uk, the other 350. Parts can be an issue, in many, many cases not available at all if you want new.
 
The only other 86 I've seen is an electric blue one that parks in the same multi storey car park as I do.
 
Being one of the very first batch, I placed my order with no idea how many cars were coming, there could have been thousands for all I knew, it was only when we found out they closed the order system after 90 minutes that we started to realise these were very limited, and Toyota UK’s marketing department were happy to tell everyone about it. Obviously we now know this wasn’t the case, but it made no difference to me personally (I realise that’s not the case for all). I wanted a proper drivers car, without all the driver aids that get in the way, and this ticked all of the boxes for me, at what is a bargain price compared to anything else similar out there. I liked the idea of having a rare car (and even with over a thousand it still is) but I’m happier to think I’ll have a much easier job sourcing parts and spares if needed, now there are a reasonable number around. I’m also happy to think there are a thousand other people who may or may not be able to afford a new Porsche/Alpine etc., but get a chance to own one of the best driving cars around at the moment.
