GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

So yesterday was meant to be the day I collected my car. The online team hadn’t finalised the paperwork though so it was postponed.

After chasing up today I got confirmation the paperwork was done but then was hit with the bad news, the dealer had removed the protective film at my request ahead of collecting and found a dent on the bonnet.

Also a couple scratches above and below the dent. Annoyed doesn’t sum it up. Haven’t accepted the car and now need to wait until tomorrow to hear from the online team.

Dealer advised this is the third GR86 they have had with damage.

They'll have to paint it and give you a courtesy car in the meantime.
 
I was in Preston today and had a delivery at Booths by the riverside. Noticed two GR86's that had most likely been dropped off for Toyota Preston? One was Sapphire blue with a 23 plate on it and another white one with no plates. The rest was full of boring Toyota's. Both still got their film on.

Wonder if it is anyone's on here?

I'd not accept that. There must be another just round the corner. Unfortunately that may mean that it will be repaired and sold to someone else waiting for that colour.

I picked up a new Honda in 1990 when I was stationed in Cyprus.. On Friday the 13th.. We got rear ended while driving it home… It never felt like a new car again…

Tough call but if it were me and I could get another car I’d reject it

I’ve just realised it was 99 not 90 as it was during our second tour there.. The first time my CRX came home unscathed but the CRV wasn’t so lucky in 99 🙄

Yeah knowing there are still grey manual cars available I’m thinking this is the road to go down. Really annoying though as I was planning a road trip in Europe next month with it and can’t see another car being here in time. Short term pain for long term gain I guess!

Well if you weren’t superstitious before that incident I’m assuming you are now?! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yeah, just knowing it’s been repaired and not as it should have left the factory will always be in the mind somewhere. Definitely thinking the new car route and sucking up the additional wait.
 
That is some impact dent! A paintless dent repair doesn’t look possible given how deep it’s gone. I would reject that as a matter of course if it were mine as I’d not be wanting to waste PPF and ceramic coat on a damaged/resprayed panel.

100% with you on this mate. I was going to have my detailer take the protective film off and ask the dealer to do nothing but I've read a few stories on here about damage only being uncovered after the film has come off so I'm thinking maybe that's the way to go.

Yeah the dealer was pretty surprised when they saw it. Given the scratches above and below it they were sceptical about it happening in transit.

Good point re PPF/ceramic, I spoke to the detailer to give him the heads up and he said you’d be surprised the amount of new cars that arrive damaged and get repaired prior to handover and customers collecting without ever knowing about it. 🙈

Yeah that was my plan but the detailer advised me to take it off at the dealership. He had a customer with an M3 touring who left the film on, drove it straight to him where he discovered some damage. Apparently the customer had quite a bit of hassle with the dealership to get it sorted under warranty.

It didn’t make me superstitious.. Just really pissed me off 😬

I also wouldn't want my brand new car to have already had repair works like that. What does it mean for PPF and ceramic though? Whether it's had a repair or not, your PPF is to save any more resprays being needed, and the ceramic is more to help keep it looking clean, isn't it?

Sorry to hear about your car. Disappointing after the excitement of thinking you were about to get it. I saw it had your personal plate on it - is it registered (as a 23 plate car)? If it is a 23 plate and you reject it I wonder how they will sell it as new in September when 73 plates are out?

It's just a personal thing. I wouldn't waste £2K on front quarter PPF and a full Ceramic detail on a year old car with already seasoned paintwork, so the same goes for a damaged/resprayed new car. Generally, no matter how good the bodyshop, it isn't the same Batch of paint as the original (factory) painted panel and the difference can be spotted by a Professional. For me, the whole point of driving from Dealer to Detailer is to preserve the paint and bodywork in as pristine condition as possible. If it gets a dent/scratch after that, at least it will be whilst in my possession, my fault and I will have to bear the pain of sorting it out. Paying well over £32k/35k (MT/AT prices) for a damaged car wouldn't sit well with me - It should be faultless at point of sale IMO.

I bought my GT86 back in 2012 from a main dealer (not quite brand new - 200 miles with one owner who apparently didn't like it). It was immaculate as you'd expect.

Between paying the deposit and collecting the car, the dealer rang me and sheepishly told me that one of their staff had hit the front end with one of those skips with wheels on, and although they promised to repair it to showroom standard it meant I'd have to wait an extra week or so for the car.. They also gave me the option of rejecting it if I was unhappy in any way.

They did indeed repair it, and I found zero evidence of any damage at all, so I'm not surprised with this! To be fair to the dealer they did give their (blue 10k miles) GT86 for a week and some vouchers for my inconvenience.
