GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Sorry to hear about your car. Disappointing after the excitement of thinking you were about to get it. I saw it had your personal plate on it - is it registered (as a 23 plate car)? If it is a 23 plate and you reject it I wonder how they will sell it as new in September when 73 plates are out?
Thanks, yeah it’s pretty disappointing, have A/L booked in Sept and was planning a road trip in Europe but that’ll be knocked on the head now.

Yes it was going to be a ‘23 registration, they had asked if I wanted to wait so it could be registered as a ‘73 plate but it doesn’t really make any difference to me as you saw I’ve got a private plate and just wanted the car at the earliest opportunity.

I don’t think it was fully registered as the dealer discovered the damage and let the online team know so although it looked ready to go it still had to be fully registered if I was going to take it so I assume they’ll be able to register at a later date and if after Sept will be on a ‘73 plate.

Thanks for getting back to me and sorry that you look unlikely to have the car for the trip. I have a grey manual sat in Derby….. you can imagine what I am worried about! 🧐

I bought my GT86 back in 2012 from a main dealer (not quite brand new - 200 miles with one owner who apparently didn't like it). It was immaculate as you'd expect.

Between paying the deposit and collecting the car, the dealer rang me and sheepishly told me that one of their staff had hit the front end with one of those skips with wheels on, and although they promised to repair it to showroom standard it meant I'd have to wait an extra week or so for the car.. They also gave me the option of rejecting it if I was unhappy in any way.

They did indeed repair it, and I found zero evidence of any damage at all, so I'm not surprised with this! To be fair to the dealer they did give their (blue 10k miles) GT86 for a week and some vouchers for my inconvenience.
So frustrating isn’t it. Good to hear the dealer was up front and honest with you and glad to hear they repaired it to a standard you were happy with. I’m sure there are many other dealers out there who wouldn’t have been so honest and just tried to postpone collection until they could repair it and not say anything about it.

Speaking of cars being unregistered at the dealers, 2 of us with orders to the same dealer want to swap cars (swap colours), but so far Toyota Online aren't being helpful. They have (unhelpfully) suggested we can swap V5s after, so we're both second owners on brand new cars. But since the cars arrive at the dealer unregistered, I really can't understand why they won't do it for us.

I think they register them when they arrive in Bristol, unless they have a cherished plate, hence they are all W prefix reg numbers which is Bristol area.
They told me my reg, it's a WU73.

That does seem bizarre… Hard to know what to suggest really

Yeah I’ve no idea why they can’t assist you further with that, presumably something to do with it being partly registered in advance but I can’t see how they can’t resolve that given both customers are requesting the swap. Surely it makes sense that two potentially new customers are satisfied. 🙄

@AWB Couldn’t help myself…

😂 and now you’ve seen a grey one in the flesh!!
Yes, and it looked great. Just need to keep it clean I think.

Can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for you but no doubt it will get resolved one way or another and you’ll soon enough get to enjoy it.

Thanks for the message and the opportunity to see it, even if from a distance.

Mine arrived with a deep scrape on the boot lid top and multiple stone chips to the back of the boot lid. Let them do a repair then straight to the detailers for paint correction and ceramic coating I'd challenge anyone to see where the repairs were done. However yours is a deep dent but would imagine its eminently repairable, just whether it shows up internally when the bonnet is up.

There can't be much registered, since people cancel orders at any point. My order hadn't even gone into production, so what were the registering, raw materials?

You'd think wouldn't you. I had a call for a Toyota survey today - they're calling me back, but the feedback won't be the best.

Who has to pay for the paint correction?
