GR Yaris Ooooo! An update!

I placed my order in September 21. The dealer said it will arrive September this year. I was fighting with my self half a year before placing the order. Now it's half a year of mind spinning later and an other one to come. I've never thought so much on a car... guess that's good?!

What's up with this 72 and 22 plate you guys are referring to? I don't get it.

The UK has age-related plates. Every 6 months, a new date is used (for the numbers in our plates). So, March 2022 will see the use of '22' plates then September 2022 will be the '72' registration. This system has been used for all new cars from September 2001 (51 plate).
For the rest of the UK plate, the first two letters relate to the area of issue and the last three letters give the unique plate in ascending order (AAA would be the first, AAB the second and ZZZ would be the last).

In Germany, you have letters for the town and then numbers to give the unique plate I think?

aaah i see. Yes, slot 1-3 are the manufacturer (WMI), 4-9 vehicle and build (VDS) and indicator section (VIS). The VIS first slot is a letter and discribes the model year. second is manufacturing place, also in letter. the last 6 slots are the unique ongoing numbers.

Our VINs are the same as yours. My explanation was for licence plates. :)

Got an update on regarding my December order today; the projected delivery date moved from October to July, which was a nice surprise as I was mentally preparing myself for a 2023 delivery.
Thats pretty good! (Assume Dec 2021 was the order date not original delivery date it got pushed back from?). I'm still praying I get something like this from my April 21 order which was a cancellation originally ordered in March. I've asked the dealer to give me plenty warning so I can sell my current car in time but not optimistic they will do - worse problems to have I suppose.

Ah, is's a "Kennzeichen" :D okay sorry, i am slow today. Whait that means your licence plates are determined by date of registration? So you can not choose what plate you whant to have?

Correct... But you can 'buy' registrations in the UK from the Government/DVLA to suit your name, initials, or car model etc etc but you cannot make the car appear newer than its registration date.

And traditionally, although less so nowadays, your typical status-obsessed Brit would rather have the newer registration on his/her car as it meant your neighbours would think you had a "newer" car and, in theory anyway, it would be worth a little more at sale/trade-in time, so some people would defer delivery to grab the latest plate.

It used to be an annual changeover which severely distorted sales and the premium for a new registration could be notable. They changed it to every 6 months with a bit more of an obtuse schema for denoting the age so the effect is much diminished, but some folk as obviously still happy to wait weeks or months(!) for their car because of it.

Madness, imho, but each to their own :D

I got all excited. An email came in from 'Toyota Buy Online' with a delivery update while I was doing something else and couldn't have a look. When I did it was just repeating the last info I'd already had, estimating October '22 for my online 19th March order :( Hey ho.......
Hi, so you ordered March 2021 and expecting Oct 22? Were you told May 22 delivery until recently?

I put a deposit down March 21 for the GRY, my contact at the dealer left and now cant get any info from those who he 'handed over to'. Presume Oct 22 as well on that basis. Im prob going to cancel my order and aim for the GR86 to be honest, think it suits my needs better.

Your experience seems very similar to mine, can I ask what dealership you placed your order with ?

Inchcape Sandhurst. The guy from last year who took the deposit called me every few months just to say no news and arranged a test drive through Guildford. But since he left in Nov then I've had no call backs, never get hold of anyone and the same for emails.
I was going to move my GRY deposit over to the GR86 but decided I wont be buying through them or using them for service when I get one. I dont mind no news or no info available, but I do expect a reply to a simple email, phone call or enquiry.
Where are you looking?

I placed my order end of March 2021 and paid £1000.00 deposit, the customer service was rubbish and I was pushed from one person to another. So in the end I got in my car and drove to the dealership. Glad I did as I was given a contact, yes a real person who will own my order and keep me up to date. Say that I still email them every month to make sure they haven't forgotten me. Lets hope we both receive our cars sooner than later

Yeah it was originally May until they pushed all the orders out :(

Anybody else’s long order number update to a short one today? I have hope that it means something and sure I read something on the old forum about that but probably just overthinking it and it’s merely an app update.

Ordered end of April 21 and mine is still a bunch of numbers so yours might be getting built soon.
