GR86 GR86 - My review after 3k miles and why I'm selling it.

I have build a an E30 M3 full DTM spec. 950kg and 345hp 4cil 9000 rpm. It is unbelievable how that thing goes on track. It is faster then an new m2 cup car from bmw. A 1500kg race car lol.

i had my GR86 on the scales. 1278kg with a full tank. 1 recaro raceseat. That is very good!

Prove it.... Photos please đŸ˜†

i have an M2 competition and have done some trackdays with it. But after i did some trackdays with the gr86 my M2 is sitting in the garage.

My BMW M2 feels like a cruise ship on track. it eats brakes and tires Compared to the gr86

i have done 1200km on track with one set of brake pads and tires with the GR86. The GR86 is a dream driving thru corners no way a car with 1600kg or more gives you more fun on track.

new 240i or the new m2 with 1700kg to carry around is nice for fast daily trips. But stay away from trackdays. These cars are much to heavy.

the reading on bimmerpost is just so nice. All those oeeeeeh and aaaah apple fanboys buy into everything bmw brings. If the new M2 weighs 2000 kg and has 600hp they like it even more.

I will not buy a new M2 no way 1700kg gives me fun. That car has more weight then my wifes BMW X1 lol
I would love to have a GT4RS but can t order one anymore and secondhand they ask idiot prices.

i like to have cars that gives fun on road and track. If i wanted a heavy M just give me x3M family car. I dont see anything positive in a 1700kg entry level M car. Also a M240 i see no point in owning such a car. Get a X3M with a transporter behind it where my GR86 standing on on my way to the track.

I used to be a big fan of BMW (E36 and E46 days) but i feel they've lost their way. Their company ethos used to be that cars had to be driven from the rear wheels, 50/50 weight distribution, and a focus on driving dynamics. Nowadays a lot of their cars are 4 wheel drive, which i'm guessing is BMW chasing 0-60 times. 4 Wheel drive and turbo engines add significant weight. Bring back that beautiful NA straight-six engine, rear wheel drive, and sensible wheels. Oh, and ditch the colossal front grill.

The E46 did really well

ok here it is.

Race on the Assen Race Track.

My last stop gap car was almost 8 years. I don't plan on every selling my 86 but everything has a price. The plan is to keep it, buy a BMW tourer for rough work and family stuff, then maybe a new bike or two.

Only thing I can see myself trading mine in for is a Nissan GTR, or if Toyota ever decide to release that targa top Supra which they never will do.

Haha.

AdvEvo stands for Andre de Vries Evolution thats my internet name. I made this because in the early days i drove an evo 6. Look on the side window my name is there.
Yeah I meant you photoshopped your name, photoshopping the car would be harder ;)
I follow you since the 1M Coupe days, you are definitily the real deal đŸ¤Ÿ

On the subject of weight, there were some interesting findings in the Evo Car of the Year 2022 written article/video, where our humble steed did so well.

(c.25 minutes for weighbridge action)

The GR86 was very close to the claimed figure. Some of the others - weren't!

Table for those not willing or able to watch the video:

Iirc the table is wrong for the Maser and that was the weight on the bridge with driver? Which needs to be substracted. Anyhow, not gonna rewatch now...

Buying a Supra, completely made by BMW, because you don't like BMW?

Where did I say I didn't like BMW? Reading is hard...

I said, I wanted a rear wheel drive car. That is the only reason, and also I like the childish nature of the Supra. Nothing to do with BMW at all. Part of the reason I love the Supra is you're getting a BMW with Toyota QC and a 10 year warranty...

The other part is that it's a great little car. Fast enough in a straight line, and still fun with traction control off spinning it around B roads.

Some flip-flopping here mind. :ROFLMAO:

How long before the "anyone want to swap a gr86 for a supra?" thread?
No, that won't happen. I mean I was originally torn between the Supra and the m240i anyway, and I decided at the last minute to swap to the Supra because my inner child says cars go BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR (rear wheel fun inc)

I thought I could go down cars, I can't. The only way is sideways or up from here...

The Supra is an awesome choice. The BMW Z4 that it's based on is already and great car so with a bit of Toyota GR magic sprinkled on it makes it epic. If the manual Supra wasn't nearly double the price of the GR86 i would have been very tempted.

I am going to drive a supra manual. I am curious how it drives against my m2c.
