So why did we collectively feel the need to do something else?
There seem to be lots of opinions on what we have done, both good and bad, in the other place so for the record I thought it was worth committing it to a thread.
We were pretty gutted the other site was sold, but like you, we didn’t know it was happening until after the event and had no choice but to just go with it.
We were and continued to be supportive of the old place, but simply put the questions we were asking – like how things were to be managed going forwards were not answered. We were given an indication around ads, and site changes that were going to be made, none of which we felt collectively were going to make the site better. We asked for changes - these were not actioned, it simply seemed to be about website traffic rather than the quality of the community.
There are lots of specific examples, but it serves no purpose to list them here – we have no grudge against the other place.
For us it was all about supporting the community, we have all been part of for some time and building on the buzz of the GR cars and brand.
It wasn’t a snap decision either we spent time considering the implications and thinking how we could carry on doing what we had done, anticipating what seemed to us like the inevitable path the other site was likely to follow – one which other sites sold on have taken to the apparent detriment of the community
We wanted something that built on the good things we had supported with the GR Yaris. So eventually we settled on a way we felt we could do a bit more for the GR community, why not cover all the Gazoo Racing range it’s expanding after all and so it began.
GR-Zoo.com came to life and were all back to doing what we enjoyed most, building a community of like-minded enthusiasts. The intention being this site is not about ad revenue, and monetising, or selling it on 18 months down the line. It’s simply about a shared passion for GR.
