When will you carry out the first oil change in your GR86?

Yes, the rest is to cover the detailed checks and examination by a highly skilled master technician walking around making a UTube video to send you πŸ‘πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
You forgot the kick the tyres, riffle the cubby holes for loose change followed by the ubiquitous road test which is a quick thrash round the block timed to coincide with lunch break so a diversion to Greggs on the way back.

I wonder how long it will be before we have a β€œHave I put the wrong oil in it?” Thread πŸ€”πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Minefield.
This is what I have learned:
The Comma ECO-FO I mentioned only has the API spec, not ILSAC. The ECO-Z has both and is much more expensive. However, the manual says ILSAC or API , and Comma also directly confirmed both are OK.
Toyota only have one spec of 0W20, used in all the hybrids etc and for GR86, as seen earlier in this thread. I was quoted Β£70 for 5L from the dealer and am currently thinking that is the safest option.
I bought the filter and plug washer from the Subaru dealer. Β£22!

With the β€œsuspicionβ€œ about RTV , personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near the drivetrain myself , for Β£30 I can’t see the point of potentially opening yourself up to a question mark over what oil went in Etc, πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Im pretty sure in 5/6 years time a car with a full Toyota Service History will be worth more than one with a DIY/Indie service record πŸ€” even if said service was done by spotty yuffs in greasy overalls eating a Macadee πŸ˜‚

There are two 0W20 oils offered by Toyota. Thr hybrid engine ones and a C5 designed for the GR Supra.

It will still be a full Toyota service history if it's serviced on time with Toyota and as per schedule, which is the 10k/1year intervals.

Doing the first engine oil change at 1000 miles is a bonus that doesn't affect the service book and if anything I would trust an enthusiast with a receipt for the specific oil more than Toyota's stamp showing that they "changed it", not knowing what they've actually put in or whether they just topped it up with the cheapest one they could find on the shelf.

At least at later services they need to go through their checklist and you get additional warranty after 3 years to blame them for any mistakes.

It’s serviced in line with the Toyota Service Schedule βœ… but not carried out by Toyota ❌ and therefore having a ”Serviced by Toyota β€œ history if that’s more precise πŸ€” Having owned several Mercedes a full β€œ Official Mercedes dealer historyβ€œ carries a lot of weight when it comes to resale, as it does with other performance brands. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Worth mentioning I'm only doing this first service myself to get it out the way quickly once I hit 1000 miles.

If someone wants to knock me down a couple quid on my rare 86 in a couple of years because I did the first 1000 mile service myself, I'll tell them where to stick it πŸ˜‚

Oil change done yesterday on the drive. Just my feedback:
1. I put an endoscope in to the sump, but lost the pictures. Suffice to say you can see a large bead of sealant around the pan, similar to US ones I have seen on you tube - so there was (probably) no change from those earlier cars to ours. No loose sealant that I could see with very limited access.
2. Oil and filter were clear of any obvious debris. Cutting open the filter was the messiest part of the job!
3. The oil is clean, but looks quite black when in a bottle
4. It really is easy, which only highlights the silly money we all pay to Toyota for the warranty.

Hmmm Timeline Entry - First to probe their pan πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

I'm probably going to get one of those things that sucks the oil out of the dipstick tube. That's OK on these engines presumably?

Have ordered oil and filter. Just want to check with those that have already done it, is 5L definitely enough?

Did it yesterday. Perfectly at the full mark. Slightly above before the first start (empty oil filter).

Just another question….Given the good location of the filter I’m hoping to just unscrew it by hand without buying the correct filter wrench, was it easy to unscrew?

Sure. If it doesn't release use any tool, no problem if you damage it anyway. For the new filter oil up the ring with your finger so it slides well when tightening by hand.

Having seen a few people who have mentioned how clean their oil is, I think I might hold off doing this for a while, maybe give it another couple of thousand miles of harder driving first. Besides, weather's filthy at the moment, so I don't really want to go outside and do it :D
