GR86 First oil change (poll)

Changing oil + filter at 1000 miles myself. Bought Castrol EDGE 0W-20 C5 5L for it (= Toyota spec according to the manual).
Next maintenance for 10 years will be at Toyota following their schedule (10y warranty extended each year).

Bought an oil filter at a Subaru dealership, they have them on stock. Part number is 15208AA170 (15208AA130 filts as well but is not the OEM size, slightly taller).
Probably half price than buying online or from Toyota.

Interesting they have gone with a taller one for the GR compared to GT which had the 130 one.

I'm just over 800 miles now so decided it was time to order the parts ready to change the oil. Want to use genuine parts so if anyone's interested, the part number for the filter is 15208AA170 (photo below). ImportCarParts.co.uk have that exact filter with a sump washer for sale on their Ebay shop if anyone's interested. I'll pick up some oil from Opie or something closer to the time. Luckily, according to the manual, the exact capacity is 5l including filter, so hopefully only have to buy one large bottle.

Interesting to see GR specify less oil than GT even with an oil cooler. GT is 5.1 without filter change and 5.3 L with it. Wondering [emoji848]

And I believe the below engine oil meets the specification of the one used by Toyota, although there's also a 0W20 C5 oil designated for Supras - any ideas on the difference?

I've paid just over £65 for parts I think.

Mine was similar, I drove to Subaru for the OEM filter. It was fairly expensive too at over 20 GBP, and 30 something for the oil I got at a Opie oil sale.

100 pounds all in at a dealer is great, but only if they are using OEM filter and good oil.

Can’t see they would use anything other than what Toyota specify

It’s looking like an additional £30 over the DIY route and I’ll have a Toyota Service Receipt to stick in my folder of “GR86 bits of paper”, I think I’ll let JRT do It

£71.16 for genuine filter, sump plug washer and Miller's oil. Then it will just be my time to do it.
Should be less than 30 minutes work, oil change on these engines is easy.

here's the specifications from the manual if you want to cross-check:

And yes, changing the oil is a breeze, even with just jack/stands.
Jack up from the central front jacking point (just behind the radiator IIRC), secure on stands, then the drain plug should be accessible via a removal access panel in the undertray (new on the GR86, old car just had an opening).
The oil filter is on top of the engine at the front, next the screenwash filler. Incredibly easy to get to.

I'd say it's worthwhile if you trust the garage. I'd pay £30 extra to not let the techs at my car again, wasn't impressed with my handover

I subscribe to the “you maintained it , I’ve not touched it , check the ECU (I’ve nothing to hide) , then please fix it” approach.

Yes, the rest is to cover the detailed checks and examination by a highly skilled master technician walking around making a UTube video to send you
