Two years ago it was £165. Then £190, then £300.First service... £300...
Don't think it's a 10 year warranty. I read it as 3 or 5 and then an additional year for each service up to 10 years 100k. You don't even need a previous service history to qualify.Well I must have too much money then.
I intend to take advantage of my 10 year warranty by keeping my car completely standard.
If you do the same you too could be happy like me.

Yes, AgreeYep.
So if you have it serviced at a dealer you effectively have a 10 year warranty.
Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Actually anything ordered after they announced this up to 10 year warranty deal only gets a 3 year warranty as they changed that at the same time. Can't remember exactly when that was but it wasn't too long after I ordered in March '21.Well you get 5 years standard warranty with the car,so I think it will be going to a independent garage in the future. One I can stand and talk to the fitter as he's pouring the oil in. I only do 2 to 3k a year makes me wonder if they actually changed the oil. Come on 50 minutes for a full service, and that's with a wash and hover out, sorry Toyota poor.
Do not get me wrong the car is a good little car ,but the servicing cost for one is a bit of a piss take, and it all boils down to the over hype the car got. My last three cars 19 plate fiesta st brand new and it cost me £19 250 then I put revo stage 1 on it 250 BHP proper value for money and a great car. Then I got a Alfa Giulia quad and a 5 year service plan just over 1200 qid for basically a super car ,yet Toyota 3 year service plan over 1400 qid for a hot hatch with an extra diff, joke.
Interesting to read your thoughts on RRG Macclesfield. I have found myself thinking of doing this after my plan runs out at Bradford as it will be a shorter trip for me.I do a 120 mile round trip to RRG Macclesfield for servicing and I can’t fault them at all, they have been brilliant. All the service department and all the technicians have time for you and explain the whole process.
I actually look forward to going there and getting the car pampered, after many years of being shafted by Subaru independents I can honestly say I’m over the moon to be back in a Toyota.

For context, I'm greatful for Toyota offering this great car to us, as well as this groundbreaking warranty. Also, I'm careful when it comes to modifications so as to not invalidate elements of the warranty that I consider valuable (eg costly items like the engine).... I look at it as two thirds for the servicing and one third for the warranty payments which have clearly been built into the price. I won't be paying £300 for a service as probably £100 of that is for the warranty - which is a type of insurance....
... All the oils changed , engine and filier, diff, transfer and gearbox...
To counter that though, the diffs and transfer case are sealed and self contained, the oil is going through heat cycles and shearing, but it is not picking up contaminants through interaction with fuel and combustion deposits the way the engine oil is.For context, I'm greatful for Toyota offering this great car to us, as well as this groundbreaking warranty. At the same time, I think it's important to keep to our role as customers and not make assumptions to justify whatever Toyota GB and franchises throw at us.
When I'm issued an official Toyota invoice with a breakdown of what constitutes a total cost of £300 for a service, then that's the only accurate info I'll use to make a judgement on that cost. Assuming that £100 or any other amount out of those £300 is warranty cost built in is arbitrary. If Toyota said eg £200 for the service and an optional £100 for an extra year of warranty, that would be a different story.
To make my point clearer, if someone buys the car new and pays £300 after a year for a service, surely there shouldn't be any charge for any gimmicky 10-year warranty as the car would still be covered by the industry standard 3 or 5 warranty.
Even if Toyota actually accounted for some of the service money to fund their cost for warranty claims costs, if £190 was charged at the time when the 10-year warranty had been announced, surely £190 was enough to cover all that. So, why the over-50% £110 increase afterwards?
I'm concerned that in reality the huge price increase was due to three factors:
- Almost all cars were sold while the UK service costs advertised were £165 for the cheaper service and £300 for the more expensive ones. These raised to £300 & £450 only after Toyota had taken deposits that rendered the car sold out
- Toyota realised in practice that serving the GRY isn't as straightforward as most other Toyotas and customers aren't as indifferent as for other models (eg I don't thing many customers question what engine oil goes in other a Toyota models, while this has been a constant headache both for Toyota garages and GRY owners.
Reports mention most of the non-engine flushed oils only showing clearer after almost 10k miles.
So, I would keep changing these, also for longevity of the 2x Torsen diffs.
After 10k miles I would still have the transfer and rear diff oils changed more frequently than Toyota require, as these boxes are tiny and there's a lot going on in there.
Yes, but the Torsens effectively create contaminants during the first miles of running (which can be first thousands of miles; nothing to do with the 621 miles of running in the car as a whole) which can damage the mechanisms if left inside that sealed environment. So even for normal use, initial changes at eg around 2k, then 6k, then 12k miles make sense to me, especially given the state of flushed oils I've seen (happy to share links) and reports that these started coming out visibly clearer only as the car approached 10k miles.... the diffs and transfer case are sealed and self contained, the oil is going through heat cycles and shearing, but it is not picking up contaminants through interaction with fuel and combustion deposits the way the engine oil is....
...
The service department thought I was a nutcase for asking for the diff oils to be changed at the first service, they asked me three times if I was sure I wanted to do it!
...
... for normal road use the recommended service intervals are probably fine. Changing them gets added to the £300/£450 service cost, making it a pretty expensive annual service cost.
