It would be nice to see what Top Gear were on about with the learning of the clutch and 1st couple of gears. They suggested there is a bit of a knack, likely something simple like a high bite point

The same was true in the previous gen. Quite a high bite point, but also, there's a helper spring on the clutch pedal which it designed to lessen the clutch effort. Which it did, but as the pedal came up, it's pivot would switch and it would push the pedal back into your foot. The result was quite a non-linear feeling clutch pedal which could cause you to lurch gear changes.

The solution was simple....replace the spring with a less powerful one. Makes the clutch pedal feel a bit heavier, but it makes it much easier to judge the bite point. Very common mod for the previous gen, I did it myself and I think I'll end up doing it for the new one too. Have a search for "GT86 MTEC clutch spring", you'll probably find loads of info on it.

Not advisable. The way the spring works, it assists you when you push the clutch in, but with the clutch out, it keeps the pedal pushed upwards. If you remove the spring entirely, there'll be nothing to support the pedal when your foot is off it, which won't feel very good.

I mean i'd never do it, but you meant replace this with a different spring?

never heard of them but they have a reseller 5 mins away from me. Result.

Is that info from ECUTEK? 3 mths ago they said that they hadn't even started on it and it wasn't on their priority list as there would be so few of these cars.
I would think its not commercially viable to do a software hack and make a lot of money.

Yeah it was direct from ecutek. If you go on the GR86.org forums for the US and search their user, they gave an update a few weeks ago saying they're almost done cracking the ECU.

If you have any reservations at all I would take one for a test drive if you can

Maybe I'm a spoilt little B but I think its overpriced for the tech offered & I have an Auto with more tech than the 6MT

Does have some redeeming features over the Yaris's with lane assist & auto cruise following distance being remembered

Its hasn't done 200kms yet & I driven most of them, will see what my partner thinks once she has driven it for a few weeks compared to her ZR Yaris



Its been nearly threes years since getting out of the GT86s & into the Supra, I'm probably being a spoilt little B :ROFLMAO:

Lane assist is a redeeming feature?! Perhaps I'm weird but I'm not buying a GR86 for tech, I'm buying it because it's relatively old school.

I'd rather have a test drive. My feet are large so I'm a bit worried I'll not be able to use the pedals properly and I'd rather find that out before I've handed over £30k. On the original launch timetable I think demo cars were right after media drives and before customer deliveries so perhaps in the next week or two? Hopefully someone with a dealer who communicates will post when they find out.

Agree on the old school front. Plus I'm a size 14 feet and drove the old one fine for info.

I will be fitting a steering wheel extender though for more legroom.
