Gtechniq also do a HALO Flexible Film Coating to go on top of PPF. No experience of it but I was expecting the detailer to say that on the PPF'd areas and then normal ceramic on the rest?!

@beorg No I didn't. It was just the top spec XPEL PPF 6 years ago with nothing on top. I just add the ceramic coating "lite" in the form of the Gtechniq C2v3 to help the water sheet off better and for longer.

I think the C2v3 helps protect the un-PPF parts from getting swirls in the first place.
(I am very careful with my wash method though - DetailingWorld has wasted loads of my time and money in days gone by!)

I've always gone over my PPF with a finishing coat of Gtechniq C2v3 and that's always meant it continued to have some hydrophobic qualities. It also acts as a drying aid which is helpful.
it's probably my go-to bottle on my detailing shelves - love the stuff. I use it not only on the PPF bits, but the rest of the car too. It's good on glass too - but not the windscreen of course.

(rebranded as C2 now but still has a little v3 on the packaging)

Yeah when I've had previous cars ceramic coated I've been advised to use a product like this after washing to maintain the hydrophobic properties as it then acts as the first sacrificial layer.

https://ceramitechgroup.com/product/nano-coat-500ml/ this is the stuff I use. I also put it on the windscreen which means I dont need the wipers if i'm going fast enough!

I went to see the company that will be doing my PPF and they showed me a new Xpel film that's not been out long called Ultimate Fusion.

It's the same self healing type that Xpel have been doing for a while, but now has hydrophobic properties that are exceptional and make washing the car a complete doddle as was demonstrated to me on their own car. I'm seriously thinking about getting my GR86 100% wrapped in the stuff 👍

Looks good 😎 but will I need to sell any my body parts that are still in good fettle (not many) to be able to afford it 🤔

Not all Xpel installers can install that particular product sadly which might limit it's reach, unless you are prepared to travel for it.

Like that works on gritty B roads, or after the councils grit in the cold weather.
Nothing worse than when you are driving along minding your own business and a gritter appears coming in the opposite direction and you get absolutely peppered!:mad:

Has anyone gotten any PPF quotes from their detailers recently?

Any thoughts on Suntek vs XPEL films?

I'm getting mine totally covered in Xpel Ultimate Fusion after we had the O/H BMW covered at the front and impact zones with it. Did have a quote for just the "track pack" to start with but thought what the hell and just get all of it done I was that impressed with the hydrophobic nature of this new film.
It's not cheap though so embarrassed to put the £ up here!

I'm in an OK financial position with a new job starting next month but I'm struggling to justify spending £4-5k for full PPF on a £30k if I'm honest. Especially with the prospect of someone damaging it and having to replace it in the future.

I've been given a £2,099 quote for XPEL full front PPF and ceramic coating package, does it sound reasonable?

I was given a quote on Yiannimize the front end £1800 + VAT or Full car protection is £3600 + VAT.
Can't really justify ~ 14% of the value of the car in a PPF to be honest, but might consider the front.

I was quoted more than that for front end and ceramic on the rest so its not too bad I guess.

£3600+vat??

I need educating as to why this is so expensive.

And I guess it's not going to protect a car from debris large enough to cause a dent?

So when you get a dent in the bonnet it'll be hundreds to fill/repaint the bonnet, and then another grand to redo the protection?

I was on the fence and Reddit and GR86 Org threads of dozens of people regretting not getting it as the soft paint is susceptible to chips convinced me to get front end done.

As much as I like the idea of PPF, the cost just seems way too high for me. Up to £3k to get it done on a £100k+ car seems sensible, but on a £30k car just seems so excessive. I’m still on the fence about ceramic coating. I definitely warm to the idea of it more over the winter though! The hardest thing will be handing a car over to someone for a few days after waiting so long for it to arrive.
