GR86 If you cancel, flip or have to wait ages what will you buy instead?

I still don’t understand why they can’t give an indicative price. Surely they have a rough idea of what they have to charge to make a profit?
I suspect the way the currency is fluctuating at the moment (or bombing against the $) the price they need to charge changes all the time, so I guess they are leaving it as late as possible to commit. Initially I thought just under £40k would make sense for the UK market for tax purposes but sounds like it may be way more than that, although I find £50k pretty hard to believe.

£50k is a lot of money but then I am so shocked at what cars cost at the minute. I saw a used 2021 BMW 118i M sport recently for £36k. I could even justify that on a used 140i.

Sister in law just bought an Audi A5 40 Tfsi, that was mid £40k. It’s nice but nothing special.

Agree, absolutely mad. Used 3 year old M135i’s still over £30k. Base Yaris is more than £20k isn’t it?! Then again, it would probably cost £20k a year to heat your home soon if there was no price cap. Crazy times!

I was reading one of the other threads and saw that someone with a 10.30 ish order was given an estimated delivery date of March (I think) 2023, my order was a similar time so I am actually a bit gutted since I was expecting a second half of 23 delivery so picked this up yesterday to tide me over. Was hoping to keep it for a year or so.

Change your colour and go to the back of the queue 👍🏻

Hhmm... don't want any of the others, would they get a bit miffed if I change to white then back to smurf? I guess if I time it right I could end up with the last registered one in the UK lol.

Definitely an option. To be honest though who knows when the first ones will be delivered.

Yeah who knows. There is also the possibility that Toyota will get their act together and once they have ironed out all these issues there may be a sudden deluge of the things :ROFLMAO: Although probably not.

Blame PCP for list prices going skywards, hardly anyone “owns” a car anymore, you are effectively leasing it with an option to buy, only question you get asked is “what deposit and what monthly budget” , list price is irrelevant 🤷‍♂️

I’m close to pulling the trigger and cancelling my GR order in ice silver currently sitting in Derby. I was lucky enough to buy a new Alpine A110 recently and had convinced my son to take on the GR knowing I’d get many driving opportunities if I wished. Since then he’s had a change of heart and my lack of additional garage space and a small amount of common sense means I really can’t justify keeping the order.

Definitely feels like a therapy moment as I’ve been hesitating for the past 3 days to go ahead and cancel. Knowing these are going to be great cars and the rarity factor in the UK were what made me jump on the order books the moment they opened and it feels like a real loss to let it go.

I must admit, since getting my GR Yaris last week all my stress and frustration with the 86 purchase has just totally disappeared..... so has any excitement, however.

I'm ok leaving my deposit as delivery ETAs seem to be out the window right now but I actually quite like the idea of an MX5 instead next summer to go alongside the Yaris.

I have been feeling pretty vacant about the 86 for the past couple of months. I have been tempted by some second hand exotics but I saw some new photos of the red and it got me excited, just enough to say "yeah I want this and I'll regret cancelling"

I felt sad when I cancelled but I’m not comfortable with the customer service they’ve provided and the dealership will have no loyalty to a GR86 owner as we never purchased through them.

I’ve got the i30N ordered (completely different I know but many on here will have come from or still have hot hatches etc) but I’m currently looking at NA MX5’s, have always liked the shape and they look mega when modified.

What will be interesting is how the dealers will be with us once we get them. I'm not expecting it to be good but then it's best to think the worst so you won't be disappointed.

With the service price increase they will make way more out of servicing your car (potentially for 10 years) than they would make from selling it in the first place, they will still get a handover fee , and any service plan if bought through them. Some dealers put customer service at the top of their priority list , some don‘t know what it is , all depends who you are dealing with. 🤔

Yeah it's a lottery. Dealers locally are generally poor. If it means I travel further for better service I will and make a day out for it.

I’ve done the same myself when I had VWs , local dealership 💩 , so travelled an hour to someone who valued my custom, trusted their word and didn’t screw you on cost either 👍 I’m lucky with my local Toyota dealership, very customer focused 👍

I’m loving my Supra and have had just over a month now of enjoying it.

The few little touches like the quarter stripes, window tint and the black door vent wrap has added that little bit of personalisation, albeit ones that others have. And I am more than happy with it.

She’s almost run in now. Sitting pretty at 1100miles. I can’t wait to start opening it up.

I’ve kept my GR86 order open. I’ve just gone for a substantial promotion at work and if I get it might be able to convince the Mrs I can run both 😂. If not I’ll happily flip it (black manual if anyone’s interested…)and spend the money adding some more touches to the Supra. (Eyes on some aftermarket alloys and an exhaust)

I felt instant relief as soon as I got another car, but I completely understand why so people are waiting. With the way inflation is it’s going to be a special car at the price point. But only if you have the patience for it ☺️

Car's looking great @LU71KEE and I'll echo what @doogle83 says - all the best with your promotion!

Can you see any circumstances where - if you decide to keep one - you sell the Supra and keep the GR86?
