GR86 GR86 - The “I’m thinking of cancelling / did cancel my order” thread

I have cancelled my order, so if there's someone on the wait list wanting an electric blue manual, then you could be in luck! :)
Thought briefly of flipping, but it's just not me. No implied criticism whatsoever of anyone who does though.

It's been a frustrating experience if I am honest and, whilst I am sure the car will be good, the appeal has been spoilt by Toyota's handling of the online sale and a disillusioned local dealer who clearly wants to have nothing to do with me (I even struggled to get my original £1,000 deposit back). Sad to say, but this would have been my first Toyota and I honestly doubt I will go back.

Cancelled late last week, and honestly no regrets. There are lots of 90's classics I can turn to for RWD fun, and i'll probably swap the Cinqy for something a bit faster to go alongside the NSX which is a keeper.

Factors in the decision?
  • Poor handling of customers by TGB in general
  • Some dealers (like mine) acting like petulant children when they didn't get 'the sale' - would not want to go back for servicing!
  • General lack of communications
  • Some interesting recent information (confidential sadly, but pertinent) from a friend in Ota
I've tried to avoid some of the negative spiralling online, which explains my relatively few posts. I think it's inevitable in situations which drag on like this and communication is poor. The void is always filled with rumour, counter rumour, etc.

However, I have enjoyed reading people's experiences, likes and dislikes online, etc. There are clearly a lot of enthusiasts who have bought into the GR86, and I hope you all get your cars soon and that they live up to your expectations. I will certainly give you a pop-up flash in the NSX if I see one on the road, and that is high praise from me!!

Happy motoring!
Is said pertinent information likely to be a deal breaker for others in your opinion? I have to admit I’m teetering at the moment and have been looking at Focus RS’s..

Can see why some would go Focus RS but I discounted them when they were new, let alone now. Doesn't have the ethos I look for in a car but each to their own.

True, just heard a few people hinting at inside information and cancelling in the last few weeks and if it’s a deal breaker I’d rather move on sooner. One of the lads at work just got a facelift i30N and it made me miss mine.

The facelift i30N is fantastic. They do a better job doing DSG than VAG do. Was very tempted by a fastback if I wanted to stay with FWD. Can see it being an option if I want a car for carrying again.

I wouldn’t be able to decide between the manual and DSG. The lad at works feels seriously rapid and it’s the auto, think he said it hits 62 in 5.4! Handles well but wondering if the manual might handle better..

Think I’m going to book a test drive.

My test was in the auto, the manual will be a nice weight saving and does rev match for those who don't heel and toe. From what I've seen it's a good system and better than the one on the Yaris.

Anyone heard any rumors what this is about? Issues, spec changes or more delays?

I wish someone would just leak it 😅 it’s all become a chore listening to the next issue crop up at this point. If something is making people cancel I’d rather know before delivery!

Is it a lot better than the pre facelift? Think I remember you saying you had one?

Well, I've just emailed Toyota Online to ask them how I cancel my order.

I echo previous messages (especially Luddite) and have found the whole process to be really disheartening.

However, this forum has been great and I was really looking forward to meeting with some like-minded people and comparing horror stories / amazing buying experiences :ROFLMAO:

I'm now the very happy owner of a MK3.5 (or NC2) MX5 because of this forum, so things have still turned out well! Can I put a GR-Zoo sticker on it, I wonder

Cheers and good luck getting your cars and enjoying them for years to come.

There's really nothing else I'd want to buy at the moment, so guess it'll just be a waiting game.
Exactly this. There is nothing (I think) that comes close to the gr86 at the moment, I have toyed with the idea of an Alpine, Supra & Cayman, but they only have 2 seats. I would love 911, but cannot justify the additional running costs, plus £30k+ is only ever going to get a 12+year old car. The 86 just fits the bill, but everyone has their own requirements etc.

It is going to be a waiting game, and patience isn't one of my strong points 😃
