GR Yaris Service plan and price increases

I was down at the dealer yesterday, they confirmed the price rises listed here.

The longest plan they are able to sell at current prices is "10 services" so I've cancelled my three year plan and gone for that instead. At 8,000 miles a year that should be me sorted until the end of 2028. Got a 15% discount as well!

Wow, I bought the 3 year online one, but if dealers can offer more, I’m in. 10 would be fantastic. 👌

The plan the dealer was selling was with emac and had a few benefits like 10% off parts

The official Toyota on in Ireland has the same discount according to the website but I can’t see if the U.K. one does as well

That would be a handy bo us if parts are discounted too

Which dealership was it offering 15% discount and is it limited to servicing at their branches?
I have seen Vantage offering it I think.

Vertu in Chesterfield, it's an Emac plan. Don't know if it's transferable between dealers or not but I do have a copy of the T&C's, I'll have a read later.

I'm only doing 300 miles a year. It's a keeper so will be looking at annual service only (with safety done at same time)

"services may only be carried out by the dealer or a member of the dealer group". So not transferable it would seem.

How does this work with the Toyota plan?

Can’t see in the T&C’s who you can and can’t use or if you are limited to one dealer

It didn’t give an option to nominate a dealer so assume it’s any Toyota dealer

According to T&C's it can be transferred once with the car. Any Toyota dealer

I cant see why anyone does these plans.

You're better off paying time and materials for what you actually need doing when it needs doing. Trying to simplify the GRY requirements to some noddy big and small flip flop schedule is clearly going to mean you are over paying on services where next to nothing is done. They are designed for people who literally have no clue about their car, like the easy life and like paying for everything monthly. The only one that gets close to good value is the 4 year one. Labour rates would have to go north of 150ph for it not to be better value. You also save by proving your own decent oil at ~£50 not £80.

I've had 3 x big and 2 x small this way. £201 for all fluids and inspection (basically 4 year service) instead of £390 and £133 instead of £190 for the smalls. My 2nd big service was actually cheaper than 201 because I had half a litre of diff oil from the first one which is 30 quid.

To pay 390 for a year one oil change and check over is silly, surely people see that. An hour's work 4l of oil, an oil filter and a washer.

I am not sure you can do that. I have a three year plan worked out at 4000 miles a year and was told the main service is in May (bought in May 21) and safety in November. Did this in my first year - two visits. My next scheduled visit is again in Nov for that fairly pointless check as I do so few miles up to others. Interesthed to see if you are correct as the safety shouldn't be paid for if done at same time as main - but that only works if you do 12000 a year and have a main service every 6 month - not sure though!

Dan. This is interesting. I have a 3 year plan and have used one year - bought May 21.
Are you saying I could cancel the final two years and start a new plan that covers 10 services - 5 int and 5 full. I do 4000 per year so that would work out at one per year till 2032.
Those 10 services did you then add the safety checks?
It is a definite keeper for me so a very interesting option if you are correct.
10 years at current - 10 services & 10 safety = £6150
10 years at new - 10 services & 10 safety = £8250
Some of us who will keep for 10 years ( I kept my RAV4 for 11 years) need to look into this.
When do the prices go up.

It looks possible to do it yearly if your mileage is low. The 1st quote I was given was like this:

You'd need to pay as you go for 6-month safety checks at the prevailing rate (if you want them). I ended up tweaking it so it fitted 9,000 per year but it's otherwise the same as this. If you're interested probably worth a visit to your dealer to see what they can offer. As far as I'm aware prices go up 1st August.

I think that's an over-simplification. I'm PAYG on the Yaris as I'm expecting to have the 6 monthly checks done at the same time as the services but on my Volvo, £600 up front gave me 5 years of servicing, AA membership and car updates. That just made sense to me at the time.

Locking in a price for the next few years without risk makes sense to me. If I don’t use it I’ll take my money back.

Drawback for me is I can’t provide my own oil now, so will want to check what they’re putting in is right.

A stamp in the book each year is required and I want to pay as little as possible for it.

I prefer to do my own maintenance but because of the type of car it is and the long warranty a dealer service is necessary as well

I only do 3k a year and so far I’ve serviced the car myself once (changed brake fluid and engine oil, transmission oil etc) as well as the dealer 6m inspection and dealer 1yr service.

PAYG may be cheaper for the short term (I paid £90 for my first service as I only paid for the labour). The way prices are going even providing your own oil is going to be more expensive than locking in to todays prices.

I don’t know how they can get away with charging the same for a 2yr service as a 4yr

They don’t actually change any fluids until year 4 (brake and transmission) but price is the same.

VW services are also designed to confuse - the dealer couldn’t tell me the difference between an inspection service and full service and they have long life intervals if you are higher mileage driver etc

This is exactly why you don't go on service plans. It's for people who don't know anything about their car and just nod, smile and hand over their credit card when the dealer talks about car stuff.

The extra benefit of just paying for the work and parts you get done is that it's all itemised.

People must realise they are being mugged off when they are being asked to pay a fixed number for totally different services.... surely 🤔

I mean it is simply that simple. I've had 5 services and paid a lot less than the fixed rate for every one of them. Each manufacturer will be different. I had a m140 where you added the servicing at build and that was dirt cheap.

It’s a fixed price for whichever class of service it is.

The work they do is itemised on the invoice and in the service book whether it’s on a plan or not

Not many dealers are going to vary from the price set by the manufacturer.

If you can get the dealer to use your own oil these days it’s a rarity never mind anything else. 2 out of the 3 I tried wouldn’t have it.
