GR86 White GR86 from Singapore

I have a very interesting (slightly irritating) finding. The top inserts (for diff front mount, ie see pic below) of the whiteline KDT925 (https://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail4.php?part_number=KDT925) does NOT fit my stock GR86 bushing. Somehow the OD of the stock bushing is smaller than the ID of the concave side of the top whiteline inserts. iirc these top inserts supposed to be fitting tightly to the stock bushings and at times irritating to install cos they "pop out" while raising the diff and tightening up the bolts. Instead they are really loose with these gr86 stock bushings.

The bottom inserts and the diff rear bushing inserts all work perfectly.

But i guess the good thing is, with all the inserts (sans the aforementioned front mount top insert) mounted, there is ZERO NVH increase! And (maybe placebo but whatever) car feels more responsive esp with hard tip in of gas pedal in2nd and 3rd gear).

Looking forward to hearing how the car feels with the new strut brace 👍😎
I didnt drive it in anger before putting in the brace so cant really tell the before after. But it looks so good it feels like +100hp in my mind muahhaha.

Are those steelies 16s or 17s? Look quite snug over the calipers.

Woohoo my Tillet B5 is in! With Recaro 2080.025.2 sliders. Same sliders for the gen 1.

@Jianlun, you should ask if you can hitch a ride on the next boat stopping off in Singapore on the way to the UK - you're very welcome to join us for the first get-together after a few of us have taken our deliveries!

UK deliveries have started? Congratulations! Its really a fine car! Not new age turbo fast, more old school you-have-to-work-for-it kinda fast. Think grown up miata. Still a small torque dip which is a little irritating when you drop 1 gear (to overtake) and fall right into it but thats solved by dropping 2 gears (isnt that the whole fun about manual trans?).

Got around to putting in my Momo Mod 07 that followed me for a few cars. Use a HKB OT-273 (same as first gen) boss kit. Still some work in progress cos want to wire in my horn and maybe relocating some steering wheel buttons to center console.

Added some photos for reference if anyone needs.

If you did that yourself 10/10 👏🥇 , I’d struggle to change the gear knob let alone make one 🤣
The CNC lathe did it. Hahaha. I have the CAD if anyone wants. Basically made it as short as i could (but merely a few mm below the stock knob). The shifter shaft top end is almost at the top of the ball. Heh.

That’s the exact style I want but in carbon or titanium. I see some of the gear knobs available and they look ridiculously bulbous. I’ve rather enjoyed my carbon Ford performance one.

I was curious and decided to open my airbox. Realised it does NOT have that white charcoal filter that i guess usdm cars have (and that some are removing). Not sure about uk spec cars. Just in case anyone want to buy a jdm airbox rather than cutting up the white filter.

Here’s a video about the charcoal filter removal. Bit long winded but the car seemed to be quite grateful for it being removed and a peak figure of 223WHP which is estimated to be around 260BHP at the crank, not a bad figure.

Just watched this. Is that extra filter only in US spec cars?

I'd be a bit wary about removing it myself. Not really worried about harming anything...it seems to be a belt and braces addition and perhaps a bit redundant when you already have the panel filter. But having to cut it out means it's not an easily reversible mod, and it would be an easy way for a dealer to deny any prospective warranty claim on the engine.

I think it's only fitted to the US market which is why they are down 3bhp compared to the rest of the world. Its actually there to prevent hydrocarbons leaching out of the engine when it's off.
