The place to discuss all things number plate related , fixing , legality, show plates etc .

@Polymorphic has already got a thread going for Registration Numbers so try and keep that just for the actual registration numbers folk may have for their GR86

Saw this on a car at SCITP and was thinking that Japanese show plates would be very nice 😎 Now just waiting for someone to tell me this isn’t Japanese 🤣

Does anyone have a good supplier for legal smaller plates?

Something that meets the specific MOT requirements but allows for a smaller plate overall?

Started playing with this and didn't find an easy way to maintain the legal lettering size, they just seems to scale the letters to the plate size.

As long as you keep the plate 111mm / 4.4" tall, the letters will be the right size.

Small for front, standard size rear as below for my GR86's plate for example:

Thanks 355x111 looks like a sweet spot - shrinks plate size horizontally for 5 character plates and doesn't look like some tiny weird illegal plate.

I imagine we will, that's got to be a general euro spec bumper with the headlight washers.

Bugger, a GPF and now this, that makes my plans of removing the 'brick' and running a small plate a lot more difficult/expensive. The only option I see is to stand off the plate so it covers the holes in top lip part of the grille or buy a whole grill from the US.

Clutching at straws, LHD spec vs RHD spec might be different.

I feel like I'm in the minority here but I'm actually fine with the front number plate plate size...
I have a private plate (granted it's 6 characters) and just think that shorter ones look odd. Of course this is all subjective but at least I don't have to worry about filling a gap in the grill.

I was hoping to put on a smaller plate on the front. One option would be to try and get a JDM number plate holder, you would assume the fittings on the bumper would be the same. Then fit a set of import size number plates on the car :)

The ones fitted to the cars in Japan will be for 330mm wide plates but they are taller than UK ones at 165mm. Will be easier to hide the cut marks by trimming the bottom of the plate holder.

Fitting to car looks the same:

That's a great idea Wrobz, I think I'll go down that route (if I can figure where to get one)
