Supply chain is a nightmare currently - I'm in the automotive electronics industry and it's not just 'chips' as the media like to say.
Connectors, discrete components, ICs, microcontrollers, you name it - zero stock, massive lead times, exorbitant prices - all playing a part to make production exceedingly difficult.
Even when you have a lead time, it's often put back 12 months at a time, or just discontinued altogether.

Tier1/2 Automotive Company here too, we have people actively changing R&D focus because of part availability. Its mad!

Thought I hadn't imagined it.

A mate who used to be in the kitchen industry so has a lot of contacts there has had to wait ages for a narrow size dishwasher due to the chip shortage and it's unusual size didn't help, he said that he had heard (so take with pinch of salt) that some car makers were buying white goods and stripping them for chips. :unsure:

Likewise - us and some of our peers are redesigning products because parts have become obsolete or effectively unobtainable.
One product only got to prototype stage and now has to be redesigned due to unavailability.
 
I hope they can fulfill all of the orders before 2024. Although I'm not sure of the wording of the relevant legislation (which prevents them selling after 2024) and whether they would actually be prevented from delivering cars after 2024 that were actually reserved last month. Presumably not, so presumably as long as you have an ORCA order you are guaranteed a car no matter if it's delivered in 2024, but I can't be bothered reading the legislation! And it's probably best not to open that can of worms just yet :LOL:

I have also just seen elsewhere that the first LHD cars have arrived in the UK, so presumably the media will start on it shortly, subject to an embargo while they all wait their turn.

Just a quick point - I think you may a missed another new member: @Highlander, who first posted at 12:16am today. That's an Electric Blue 6MT to be added to the List which, by my reckoning, will now stand at 176.

LHD? Are the media going to be testing European cars then?
 
I don't see the point of giving press cars to journalists, even if they give a positive review no one can go out an order one off the back of the review as they are all gone, seems a bit pointless. Seems like a waste of resource to me, then again what do I know, they seem to review unobtainium Pork GT3's and the like quite often.

I still watch and enjoy reviews, even about unobtainable cars. After seeing so many positive reviews of the car from American sources, I'd be interested to hear the thoughts from home grown journos on UK roads. And although you might not be able to buy one new, I'm sure they will definitely be available second hand relatively quickly, if you want to pay a premium. So there is some value in reviews,

If reviews are positive it'll at least give peace of mind that the wait will be worth it 😂
 
Don't get me wrong I will lap up all the UK reviews from respected car journos (the YT influenzas can FRO) but it still does seem like a wasted resource for a product that's flown off the shelves already.
 
If its this Germany Registered GR86 LHD, then this vehicle has been with Toyota Europe from Nov 2021 and it appeared in Essen Motor show then in Spain track test with Media including Autocar and now back in UK for Autocar Awards Photo shoot.

Yes, reviews can be very helpful for subsequent owners for years to come, and can be very easy to find on the net even when a good few years old.
