GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

Bit of an update but not as informative as @Polymorphic post #2769

I emailed Toyota using the link from my order confirmation email for an update, and asked the question could I change colour ?

The answer was , sorry for the delay, unprecedented demand , very busy etc, ” the good news is as we have not contacted you you can change colour , please advise what colour you would like“

So if you are undecided on colour and have not had “the call“ you MAY be able to change.
It 🤔

PS mine is still showing as my original choice on My Toyota under Purchased
Ordered black and wondering if silver would have been better. A bit more contrast? But a part of me doesn’t want to add any more complications

If you're on the fence, then it's probably not worth changing, as it may likely introduce a delay to your order and considering the extra cost of £645, you could always put that amount into getting a wrap for a more interesting colour.

Also, all black sports cars are often highly sought after and cost premium, so I would expect it to hold its value better than some other colours and be easier to flip in the future because of it. Good luck looking after the paint, though. :D

Yeah definitely on the fence. Black cars look amazing when clean but are harder to keep clean. I’ll save the silver for when I get my Supra ha ha

So three weeks later if they haven't contacted you you haven't really got a confirmed order/car, as it hasn't been placed with the factory.

This is it ! its becoming clear on their calls strategy and why they want to call customers, even though they keep saying your order is already placed with factory. That can't be true if you can change colour
Looks like till you receive a TGB online order team call, what you have is confirmed Online order with ORCA ref from Toyota GB and after the call the order is actually placed with Toyota Japan or the Subaru plant resulting in a build slot and ETA.

It is all very confusing, I do feel for the online team as they obviously have been dropped in it, but by not communicating they are causing more work by having to reply to the same questions.

However I did send an email after waiting two weeks post the email from Toyota saying contact 'in the coming days'. The reply was let's say somewhat terse in nature. But they did state.

'the timing of your call does not effect the lead time of your car in any way'

You can take that as ok cool or why dont they just tell us all the lead time

I'm not sure why this would be a surprise to anybody - if they have indeed sold the entire 2 year allocation, it's fairly obvious that they won't all be scheduled for production straight away - they are bound to be spread over time in batches, or whatever their production process is.

It’s the lack of communication that’s frustrating. I would rather a brief call or email to advise that your allocation is likely to be early/late 2023.

I had issues on order day and had to phone for advice. I was told I would need to speak to them post order to port over the finance from the dealer. I really want to get that side of things sorted now even if I have to wait for the car.

I applied for finance for my o

One of the few things I took away from my call was that the finance check only lasts 90 days, if the car comes in after that you need to have a check done again...

This thread is a fascinating insight into:

- the world's biggest car manufacturer's operational processes (or lack thereof);
- human psychology, specifically in terms of herd mentality and feelings of FOMO

I was very laid back for the first week or two but must admit with all the mixed messages, it would be reassuring to get an ETA sooner rather than later. Even if it's mid-next year, as long as the ETA is reasonably accurate, at least I can plan. It does make me laugh that at the point of order, delivery was stated to be 13 weeks

They said that too on my call and makes sense. If I go and take finance out on something else in the mean time I wouldn't be approved for this.

3 weeks & counting & still waiting for the call bored now 🥱 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I've noticed the colour split has changed recently so Electric Blue isn't quite so dominant. Also quite surprised there is such an even split of colours - I would have assumed there would be very few orders for "doom blue" and silver, given the market for the car.

All the colours are great though, I think there was a good range considering how often the choice on new cars is just fifty shades of grey

Only reason I went for the Sapphire Blue was because I thought it would look amazing with a set of bronzies. Also easier to keep clean than black!
Looking into getting GT7 to do a mock-up.

Im more surprised there's some colour/transmission combos we have yet to find!

Good shout on bronze!

My pet hate is black wheels, but probably won't change them until the first tyre change

Makes sense to put some track tyres on the black rims when you change them!

Agreed! I like the black wheels on older cars, something intimidating about them. Doesn't suit more modern cars.

Don’t know if this will help - I have a 16-plate GT86 on finance, due to end November. The car (based on CAP average value) is now devaluing more than how much I pay a month, at the moment to the tune of £500 per month. I’ve got around £6600 equity in the thing (!!) so, as much as I absolutely bloody love it, I may have to get rid and run around in a £1k Top Gear Challenge banger for a year 😂
Ah, my 65 plate is supposedly going up in value again at the moment! I know it's not a perfect science, but I've been doing WBAC valuations each week and it's just gone up again, it's gone down a lot since last year when they were crazy high value, but still looking at around £5k equity - tbh as long as it doesn't drop below £4k equity by the time I get a GR86, I don't mind too much.
