GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I saw someone tried to make the photo a bit clearer, and I see a big "R" at the right side of the the license plate holder, where there is usually thr GR badge.
Could it be some mysterious GR-R?
I mean?! What would that be?

I don't see anything like that

Meh. It's just the RR steering wheel, revised EPS tuning, better tires on certain trims, and a few option fixes.

  • First use of a newly developed GR steering wheel
  • Power steering setting modified by leveraging feedback from competing in motorsports
  • Newly developed high-performance tires on certain trim levels*1
  • Changes to factory-installed options

A worthy set of updates I would say. Some complimentary tweaks to things like suspension tuning are also mentioned.

I like the naming convention, Type 20, Type 26 etc.

Pity they didn’t use that when they released what I suppose we must now call the Type 24!

I hope that steering wheel is heated. Really want it but couldn't face losing my heaters! I could end up with summer/winter steering wheels if not 😂

I want to try those tyres, too.

The new tire is the most interesting thing imo, the choice of a track oriented tire is really interesting and I'll definitely consider them when replacing the stock PS4S, but they're also quite more expensive, at around 200€/pc at the moment compared to 130€ for the Michelins.

I could see myself replacing the steering wheel if the new part is readily available with red stitches, with my big hands I constantly press the menu buttons whenever my driving becomes a bit spirited.

EDIT : Just looked at the high res press photos and the new steering wheel is shown with red stitches 🥳

All those traders that bought an Aero just to flip might as well just sell it at cost now as it’s already been superseded by this Type 26 😉 So new heated wheel, tweaked steering and suspension, and new rubber. Nice little upgrade though and got to applaud Toyota for constantly honing the GR even if it does suck a bit for those that just bought one. But hey it’s no different to what Nissan done with the GT-R every year or what Porsche do with the 911.

Replacing that steering wheel won't be cheap though I guess, I looked at what the current one would cost, considering everything would have to be replaced, including the switch assembly and the airbag, and the new one might even be more expensive, so yeah, I'll have to think about it :D

Yes, the only surprise was they basically left it untouched for four years initially, individual part refinements notwithstanding.

Everybody calm down.
Can’t change the steering wheel anyway, because it’s RHD. Duh!😂
In theory, the steering wheel is the same for left- and right-hand drive... however, they're frequently changing the power steering setup, and I'm starting to have doubts about what they're really doing...

Nice upgrades, but nothing radical imo. Also I prefer original steering wheel, even though I like the motorsport-inspired button layout similar to real rally wheels/gt series wheels I find the airbag housing too big for my taste.

Came here to say this. This is my biggest takeaway from the announcement. Much much better naming then calling it prefacelift, post facelift. Mk1 and mk2 never made sense to me since they are the same generation. From now on I will be calling them exactly like you mentioned. Type 20 , Type 24 and Type 26.

Second takeaway is I really lusted after that steering wheel when I saw it on the RR. I assume the quality is higher than the plastic one we got. I hope it will be available and somewhat affordable for LHD cars.
