GR86 Service cost increase?

I think it’s safe to assume it’s going to up every year for the foreseeable. Not looking forward to my warranty extension costing a minimum of £500 a year.

To be honest you need to knock off the difference the specialist would charge and the left over would be the warranty cost.

Yeah, that is fair. I feel like a broken record but worth checking if the Toyota Owners Club discount applies to a dealership local(ish) to you.

I've paid £30 for 2 years and it gets me 15% off servicing and parts, so pays for itself after one service.
 
Had my 3rd and final Service and MOT under the original 3 year deal today. When picking up the car I was presented with another 3 year option, which has 2 full services (B) and 1 Intermediate Service (A) and 3 x MOT's included. But does not come with Toyota breakdown cover included as the original did.
Have a few weeks to decide before the price below may change.

Service Price* £1785.11
Less 5% discount of £89.26
Plan price £1695.85
*Inc Service Management fee of 34 x £1.34

10 Payments of £62.86
23 Payments of £44.47
1 Payment of £44.44
 
And now having worked out the maths:
Service B £559.73 x 2
Service A £374.73 x 1
MOT £52.04 x 3
Management fee £1.34 x 34

I get £1695.87 - reduced to £1613.35 with the 5% discount applied

What am I missing?

I’d compare this with the cost of servicing and MOTing at an independent over 3 years - the difference will be the cost of the extended warranty for those years.

I’ve had mine serviced at an independent for both years 1 & 2. I supplied the genuine Toyota parts from an online store and just paid for the labour. The parts were markedly cheaper than buying from a dealership, but the real saving was the labour hourly rate; independent was around £65 p/hr compared to £180 p/hr (or more) at a dealership.
Year 3 & MOT (and onward) will have to be done at the dealership for me to preserve the next 12m rolling Warranty.
In total my service cost for the first two years at the same independent was £280 compared to circa £920 at the dealership - a saving of over £600.
Of course I’ll now have to bear the cost of dealership services if I wish to enjoy the peace of mind that a rolling Warranty provides. It’s painful but unavoidable.

Is it really a requirement the stealership does the MOT for the +1 year warranty to be given? I’d rather give my money to a more deserving MOT mechanic.

No, just the Service. More a matter of convenience for me in this instance, as I am out of date for an MOT and service is 'overdue' by a couple of months both due to Winter storage and SORN.

My car was delivered December 2023 so the first year I had it serviced at the end of November and last year I had I serviced at the end of October. Will do it at the end of October this year too. That means I can have it serviced before putting it away for the winter and alleviate going over the service expiration.
MOT will be done when it comes out in March 2027.
 
It all comes down to how much you value that extra years full Toyota warranty.
I have looked at possible alternatives when I decide to change my Yaris Cross and am surprised at how much it costs to extend up to 5 years. The base Skoda Elroq is £630 for those extra 2 years. Many other manufacturers are similar with some as low as £350 for two yaers.
So for me, I would remember that £560 and £375 for the above services include a couple of hundred for the warranty - at least £200 that is. So then, the actual service doesn't seem as bad as first thought.
I put my GRY straight on a 9 year plan for £35 per month with MOTs and home pick up. You can cancel these at any time so I would advise new buyers to lock their services & that extra warranty in at a long fixed price.
Modern cars are so complicated and expensive to repair that for me the full and long warranty is far more important than any other option.
The longest I have kept cars are - RAV4 - 11 years, Celica TSport - till it was 13 and an XR3i - 8 years.
Yes, £560 is a lot of money but look around at what other main dealers charge for their extended 2 years - only up to 5 years and not ten years. As for those third party warranties be very carefull of the small print.
I assume that I am paying a couple of hundred (total guess) at each service now for the warranty and feel fine with that.

I took out a 3 year plan when the car was new and will continue to use dealer servicing after the plan ends.
Rather than take out another plan, going forward I will pay for the service outright when it's due.

Why pay a service plan provider, upfront, for work that hasn't been done yet?
Choose a discounted MOT if wanted. When the car needs work not covered in the service, ie brakes and tyres, take it elsewhere.
Budget to put money aside monthly to pay for it, along with insurance, road tax and tyres.
Retain total control of the cash, it could even be paid into a regular saver account and earn interest.
The only downside of paying each service is being exposed to price increases. If the cost becomes unbearable for the benefit of a warranty extension, you're free to leave anytime you wish.

That's paying them £1.34 every month so they can hold on to £600 of your money for a year. :oops:

I don’t remember the full one being half a grand before, this seems like a ridiculous price.
