GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

At brands hatch today for the GO Japan event and in good company with plenty of GT86’s. Haven’t seen another GR86 yet but there must be another one here somewhere.

I had no idea it was on, but I passed by Brands on my morning drive today! Ended up behind a convoy of Jap stuff coming up the A20 and then had to wait as they turned in to the rear entrance, so I snapped some pics.

The only GRs I saw were the Supra, and a Yaris being trailered, so guess it might have been competition spec. Thinking about it, perhaps I should have gone in, but I don't really do many car shows, didn't know if you needed a ticket or what. So just continued home for breakfast.

There was a photographer on the A20 taking photos (getapic.co.uk) and he snapped one of me, so might take a look later. Cleaned my car yesterday so maybe he got a shot worth paying for :D

Looks like a great day. I went last year but only lasted 2 hours as it was a total wash out, weather has been mega this weekend.

Whilst washing yesterday I noticed some marring on the boot spoiler - probably bird muck - took the DA to it and it came off (phew), then reapplied some Soft99 for extra protection
My neighbour is into bikes rather than cars, so doesn't drive anything particularly special (Audi Q5). I think it's about the same age as my car. He works away during the week in construction, so most weekends it comes back pretty mucky, but he likes to keep it clean, so he washes it.
The car is black.
He washes it with one bucket, and a sponge.
He does it in direct sunlight.
He dries off with a chamois leather.

Despite that, whenever I walk past his car, the paintwork is immaculate. I can't see any swirling, marring, or water marks.

Conversely - I had my car ceramic coated, I wash using two buckets (both with grit guards) and a high quality wash mitt. I used filtered water for the final rinse, but if I do use a towel, I make sure it's soft and used with no pressure. I don't touch the paintwork to apply anything, I used spray sealants to top up. The only time I have is using water spot remover on a wet car. I take every care to minimise contact and damage. However, I am still seeing swirl marks start to appear in some lights.

Boils my piss.

Do you need to loosen the hub if you're replacing the studs with normal length, or only extended ones? I've been thinking about changing to ARP studs purely as a preventative measure, but wont be running spacers.
The stock length studs are fine, you can install them without needing to fiddle with the hub. Thank goodness, as I'd already taken one off and had to put it back on! It's only on extended studs where you need more room, hence the loosening (or not) of the hub.

Not sure as I replaced with extended ones but possibly not because you can take them out without losing the hub I believe

I received the replacement bracket for my Infinity Design intake today. Can't remember if I posted about it before, but the original one was making contact with the bonnet latch and wearing a notch into it. I contacted Infinity and they were able to send me a revised one. They've also revised the filter element slightly so I purchase one of them as well (I was about to purchase a cleaning kit anyway, now that can wait until next year).

For good measure, I sprayed the MAF sensor with some cleaner. Not had any issues, but as these filters are oiled, I figured it may be prudent to do it when servicing the filter itself.

I had planned to give my engine bay a clean while the intake was out. But then I remembered I'm not some weird pervert (come at me, detailing bros). Instead I just gave all the rubber, plastics, and the bits you need to touch regularly, a going over with some Poorboy's Vinyl and Rubber stuff on an old microfibre. That'll do.

Oh, and I also installed some little nut covers on the front seat rails. (Cheers @Beachnut ). Just tidies up the interior a little.

I’m getting very close to starting my car hunt for a gr86 - probably 6 weeks time - the delay is because I’m getting married in 3 weeks then immediately on honeymoon and I don’t think my soon to be wife will think it’s the best time to look at cars just before the wedding as I’m sure I have other jobs to do before then.
Already owned an electric blue one which I sold with 38,000miles as I was doing a lot of miles at the time.

If anyone is thinking about selling their red gr86 in late October/early November feel free to get me a message and I’ll get in touch when I’m back from honeymoon! :)

[Sonic frowns, then looks across at the only website photo posted of his GR86 by The Rhynd Cafe at a rainy 'Bacon & Brakes'. Being more miffed that the tiny rain spots ruined a perfect photo than being taunted as a perv, he shrugs contentedly and quickly gets back to buffing those pesky, if only slightly dull, rubber hoses...]

Evening, I think I have a rare illness as yet unidentified but I'm sure very common.... Symptoms take hold after attending car shows and manifest themselves as browsing fensport website and spending money....

I must have really succumbed to it and now have the TRD Aero stabiliser coming tomorrow (to try to keep bloody leaves and crap out of the boot) and a Cusco carbon strut brace with brace cylinder thingy on order.... But I do suspect the strut brace order is caused by another disease known as 'strut brace envy'...

When's pay day again????....

I am on the opposite side, I had planned to buy the nameless strut bar and someone (Simon maybe?) pointed out at Brooklands that my titanium braces are chunky and may foul a strut bar, indeed after checking some photos it would have so I either don't do it or go crazy and get the titanium front strut bar that is compatible but sanity has prevailed for the time being.

BTW, I like the nameless as it is a solid bar, not made of multiple parts like others but it is not as nice as the cusco or hks ones.

I'd consider those symptoms of illness mild and wouldn't recommend any treatment.

When you start wanting new wheels, big brakes or a turbocharger check yourself back in at the zoo...

...where we will try our hardest to convince you the man maths is never wrong and it's the right thing to do.

Oh, great, thanks for the reality check. I was looking at all 3 of those things yesterday (and most days).
