When cold is your 86 OK to pull away smoothly and easily?

I wonder if they can offer simple tuning of the throttle pedal map without any changes to anything else. Not particularly bothered about engine tuning, or at least not anything that requires more parts being changed.

How hard is it to swap, I wonder…
I suppose it depends how much you want 25bhp, to have the manifold off and on again, thats a good few hours on your back or £350-500 in labour every 12 months. That doesn't take into consideration what they have done to manage the lambda readings, you'd need one of the maps to be setup for having the stock manifold.

Either way it's still not road legal. Only really an option for dedicated track cars.

Yes fair points. Just watched a video and it doest look too difficult (on a lift) but the tune to switch between the two would be an issue. Also, it's pretty loud with the catless manifold, even with oem everything else from what I've just watched quickly on YT.

Hmm, yes, catless would be a PITA. Sports CAT would add to the cost and probably rob some of the benefit. Interested in the noise change. I took mine there for the first service and had a chat with them about various things and they dissuaded me from looking at Cobra non-res because of the noise. Definitely worth a go in their development car just to see how it feels and sounds etc.

If Fensport or similar cobbled together an off the peg package of inlet and exhaust components which released the best performance and sound enhancements whilst keeping the right side of the MOT test I’d definitely be interested.

A better soundtrack and an extra 20-25 bhp should be enough to scratch the itch and not cause a big drop in reliability I’d hope!

Maybe getting s little off topic for the group but I noticed that there's currently a sale on their NA tune.

Could always pic up a catted header and see if they'll do the stage 1 at discounted rate. For me, the main benefit of ecutek would be getting the cold start dialled back. With a nice sounding exhaust, the cold starts are awful, and with last week's cold temps it went on for a LONG time.

It'll be using ECUTEK, so by the time you've paid for the licence and their time you may aswell have the tune as well. I'm sure they could do a remap on the standard car, but if it's not a standard map they have already saved and ready to go it might cost more.

Completely pointless.

It can jerk and surge on off from low revs roll on to like mad at times even when warm. Some thing weird.

This is probably the best place to post this.

"Toyota Gazoo Racing and Subaru have announced a small treat for current GR86 and BRZ owners—at least for those in Japan. The twin sports cars are now eligible for an optional software upgrade, designed to sharpen throttle response in manual models and improve downshifting performance in automatics."

Japan only. Boo.
Someone in Japan posted on Reddit that they've now had this update, and it's made a big improvement to their car. Such a shame that we probably wont be able to get it here:

2nd gear is still my main issue too. Especially when impatient it makes you look silly kangarooing away. When I drive it regularly I drive around it but lately it's been less so I'm having to relearn habits each time.

I'll be down at Tuning developments again in a couple of weeks as I'm passing through. I can ask them about this. Honestly, its a complete non-issue for me now.
Out of curiosity I'd quite like to drive a standard car again to see how frustrating i find it.

Is there is an ECU reset or similar possible from dealer or specialist? Reason I say that is cos I don’t recognise this symptom in my car so maybe it’s a baseline calibration of air / fuel / throttle in some cars or something?

Doesn't do it all the time. When I went to Anglesey for a few days then CTEC and back it didn't do it once. But back home a few times locally shifting to 2nd it's done it. Perhaps I need to use more revs in first so they aren't too low when I go to 2nd. Need to experiment again.

It’s inconsistent. It along with its inconsistency is frustrating and annoying.

If you have never experienced the kangarooing-stuttering-stammering acceleration then you are very lucky or have different engine/ecu 😵‍💫

In my car it only happens in first 5 minutes of driving while car is cold. Since switching off the fake sound I can clearly hear/ feel car tendency to kangaroo, so I drive around it until car warms up.

@Salko_GR Mine kangaroos sometimes even when it's warm. Know what you mean about driving around the stammer; short shift or dip clutch , blip throttle etc. Shouldn’t have to do though.

Dont know if anyone has mentioned this before but I had the same issue and my solution was this "Kando Max" (Sensitivity Max) box from Max Orido.

I have been friends with the kid who runs his shop for years since he worked at the petrol station close to my house (it was like Itsuki and Takumi from Initial D I kid you not). Went in and spoke with Max about it for a while and he personally tuned these boxes for this car with his personal GR86. The drive away feeling and shift changes are massively improved with this little throttle map box. It plugs in between the main wiring harness and the throttle and took about 2 minutes to install.

This was hands down the best mod I have ever done for a stock GR86/BRZ

Looks like he has an English page for it but its pretty pricy overseas. I am sure I didnt pay that much for it.

Sadly with a supercharger and the HKS ECU I am back to the same old jerky throttle maps and I could never get Max to give me the data points so that I could work with HKS to remap thier ECU to match up with his tuning...
