GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Do you have one of those elbow rest pads? I've been tempted a few times but have resisted as I'm not sure how it will look, but comfort would be improved.
I do (see my member's cars thread here) and it's used all the time. Makes driving so much more comfortable on the elbow.

I must be in the minority but my elbow lands further back on the console opening, is this more for your forearm?
Trying to figure out if I can put something on the console 'doors' to make it a bit comfier 🤔

I’ve yet to find a better solution than cutting down a black foam yoga block - cheap as chips, really easy to customise - I just used a bread knife to shape the block. Works brilliantly.

Fitted a glossy CF Cover (from AE Night Kids Store) to the heat switch panel. Tomorrow I’m expecting their gearstick bezel panel to arrive, when I’ll be fitting that too. Perfect finish and fit, but we’ll see if their fake 3M tape holds fast or if I have to replace it with genuine PT1100… 🤓

I used 3M 94 adhesion promoter on the plastic before sticking mine. Still holding together after a year. But now I feel like getting a matt finish one... fml.

@Sonic it does hold, a little too well. I’m trying to get mine off the gear bezel and even on UKs hottest day and a heat gun after 15 minutes of trying and careful prying it would not come off. I’m determined though .. but I think summer is over.

Looks really good (y)

I’ve had the AE squarish Microsuede cushion, but have upgraded to the Carmate NZ838 from Amazon Japan. It has the little extra dogleg that is directly behind the hand brake the fits my Elbow/forearm perfectly when keeping left hand on the wheel (and my right of course!)

Are you guys driving one handed (!!) or are you saying you’re resting your elbow on the transmission tunnel when changing gear? I might be missing a trick or my freakish tall limbs are confusing me, but my elbow seems nowhere near the cubby padded doors when driving. I usually just leave the doors open with my phone sitting there plugged in

One handed steering technique. Forces you to steer less and rotate the car with the pedals too. Not something you can do all the time on the road but fun to practice.

I'm also a two hands on the wheel driver - the gear lever is already pretty perfectly placed for a quick flick without moving the rest of the arm much.

I have a short cable so leave my phone on top of the buckets and the doors close above it fine.

I was wondering this too, my bony elbow sits on the doors of the console opening, so I try to get it on the squidgy bit, but it's far from ideal.

Been looking at bits as usual. These two seem intriguing

This one someone could 3D print

This one isn't that expensive. Replaces OEM cover and is supposed to aid downforce and cooling.

I spread some Pilot Sport 4 compound around Anglesey, which is possibly my new favorite track.

Obligitory sideways footage on the way.

Anglesey is a cracking circuit. 🥰

I did a day there with that organiser and unfortunately it was spoilt by them massively overbooking, and full of inconsiderate drivers treating it as a test session. When I gave feedback, I got a shrug of the shoulders from the organiser.

This trackday was part of an organised driving holiday I went on with them, which was rather cliquey and badly put together, too.

Needless to say, I won’t be using them again!

CF Gear cover thingy fitted today. Now I just need to get a real CF bit for the AC controls to match the twill pattern as I’ve got soft CF decals there at the moment.
@Beans In answer your question; my elbow (1st gear/Rev) or lower forearm (3rd/5th gear etc) sits nicely on the console pad. I can also drive safely with my elbow resting on the pad and have my left hand holding onto the steering wheel at the ‘7 or 8’ position, and my right hand at the ‘3 or 4’. Two hands, comfy elbow - What’s not to like?! 😆

The GR86 is just perfect there, I felt slightly outgunned at Spa (although that is spectacular).
It was a great day too, not too toasty (oil temps peaked at 114 with the factory cooler) and dry throughout.
Definitely a track I'd like to visit. How long a session were you doing? Also what oil are you using? 114 peak is pretty good.

I wasn't timing to be honest... until I'd "had enough". The tyres were overheating a bit, so when it felt a bit loose I'd have a break, or when I overheated as I don't like running the AC when I was on track, probably 10 to 15 minute stints?

I used Millers Oils EE Performance 0w-30. Had previously used the Fensport supplied 0w-20 of the same brand but its really thin. The car actaully seems to feel happier on this. I also overfill by about 1 litre, - so 6l total.

I want to fit a proper oil cooler bat can't see a kit I like yet. I like the look of the HKS kit, but don't want to move the windscreen resevior. I don't want something front mounted incase I decided to go the supercharger route.

I've not seen any that tick all boxes, but I like the look of the of the Greddy kit, but that's expensive and I don't like the blue oil cooler and having to use different oil filters, so I'd want to at least swap out the thermostatic sandwich plate. The Mishimoto thermostatic take off valve retains a factory style "drip tray" for the oil filter, so I'd want to use that, which makes paying the Greddy premium a seem a bit silly.
A possible contender then is the Noble Kit, This looks like a knock off Greddy, so I'd probably use it just for the brackets, but use a decent Setrab cooler, and the Mishimoto parts mentioned above. I would also want a more satisfactory exit vent, preferably something with slats to stop stones/puddles blasting through the arch liner, that looks oem+

This was with CircuitDays, who have been brilliant, I also did Spa with them. It was actaully quite quiet, possibly as it was a bank holiday, no real idiots on the track to speak of (the old addage if there are no idiots, its probably you...) We did have a misshap in out group with an RX8 and the tyre wall, but apart from that I think there were only 2 red flags all day. There will be a youtube video up at some point if anyone is interested - The channel that did my HKS exhaust swap video.

I like the look of the brake ducts, I wonder how effective they really are? - I can see them in my future.

Not entirely convinced about the claims on the belly pan though. Engine cooling, maybe, Downforce... unlikely!
