GR Yaris Dealer Service - Oil Query

Seems Toyota Oil is now available in API SP spec: TOYOTA PART NUMBER 08880-86294. Quick ebay check shows pics with the latest spec.

Are people now seeing this when they have their cars serviced at their dealerships (what's on your invoice) ?

*COPIED FROM ANOTHER THREAD*

This is the oil our engines require. Unless it’s an equivalent spec or better, it’s not good enough.

Seems this also does make the spec/requirement GF-6A 👍🏻

08880-84106 is quite difficult to get

I need some help to decide wich one to choose that i will be using for my Yaris when it arrives, first oil change will be quite soon after delivery afterall.

Both are ILSAC GF-6A, but one of them is for broader application, and other is much more focused on appliance, the second one does mention LSPI.
What do you all reckon, which would be better ? I can get 5 liters of either oil for 46 EUR.

1.) VALVOLINE SYNPOWER MST FE C6 0W-20

2.) VALVOLINE SYNPOWER DX1 0W-20

Any oppinions apreciated ! Thanks !

The primary purpose of ILSAC GF-6 oil is to combat LSPI. GF-6 oil is in two categories, GF-6A (all other ILSAC viscosity grades eg. 0W-20) & GF-6B (0W-16 only).

As long as it’s got ‘SP 0W-20 ILSAC GF-6A’ written on it, should be good to go.

I actually contacted a Valvoline rep, and he said that C6 would be advisable.

And then i got an answer from a CC'd local Manager in the Baltics, and he said they use the C6 oil in their Rally 2 car, and it is performing fine.

@Armijs

I think that with the GF-6A being such a new specification, it’s just been a matter of time that all the main oil manufacturers have been slowly catching up. LSPI oils will become more common as time goes on & become the norm for as long as the internal combustion engine exists.

We have ultimately been guinea pigs with this small, high boost, bespoke marvel of an engine.

Cool picture by the way 👍🏻

Poured in some fresh Eneos X Prime 0w20 with GF6A spec after dealer put Toyota GF5 at last visit.
2k km in can't say I feel much of a difference, but for peace of mind is better knowing that correct oil is used, as stated on oil cap. :)

I’m glad you don’t feel much difference! I hope you challenged the dealer regarding the GF-5. I think there are a couple of vids on YouTube about low speed pre ignition (LSPI) & it looks quite frightening. The Achilles heel of small displacement, highly boosted DI engines for sure

I wondered where that car Rally2 car had vanished too! It was at an Estonian Agricultural Fair (Random!) and was a fresh import that week to the Baltics from being built in Jyväskylä. I took a few pics of it from the same show. It was on an Estonian Toyota dealer (Amserv) stand.

I’ve put together a list of articles from Toyota for anyone curious about oil development. It’s quite a long read, but it’ll give you a solid understanding of LSPI and oil chemistry. If you're into this stuff, it's definitely worth checking out.
At the end, there's a link to a comparison of 0W-20 SP and SN virgin oils. The tables are in Russian, but since they use elemental symbols, it's pretty easy to read.

Toyota Engine Oil 08880-13206 : 0W20, ILSAC GF-6A, API SP

good price but with that 3.18€ per item there's oils for 1200 years. wonder it the chassis will last that long.
