GR86 ZEV Mandate for Enthusiast Driver ICE Cars

We know about the 2035 ICE Extension, but the reason why we're seeing a whole bunch of "must go" prices of our car before the year ends.

What is everyone's thoughts about the 2024 Jan 1st Start of the ZEV Mandate?

Do you think they're going to continue selling low volume cars such as the GR86? or the MX5? The fines seem pretty hefty!

I think manufacturers like Toyota, Mazda, Ford, Hyundia/Kia etc. that already sell good amounts of ZEV have nothing to fear in continuing to offer small volume sports cars too.

Toyota are stuffed, they only have on full EV, the BZXY4 or whatever it's called. So they have stopped selling the GR products in the UK, as they need to minimise their fines for not meeting the mandate.

This is exactly why I tried to buy a GR86 in 2022 and was delighted to get one in 2023.
The sales targets for ZEV and the ultimate ban on ICE were coming, it's nothing new.
It's really just an extension of, and the next step after, years of progressively tightening average CO2 emissions.

Manufacturers have for years, had to balance a small number of 'interesting' high emissions vehicles against a large number of 'lower' emissions vehicles and the fines they had to pay for going over the target average. It's also the reason why so many emissions tests were rigged, to cheat and avoid fines. (VW, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Fiat-Chrysler, Cummins et al... did ANYONE not do it??)

Low volume cars as such aren't at risk, it's everything with an Internal Combstion Engine that now has a finite sell by date.
Low volume ZEV cars may continue depending on their profitability, as was always the case for any vehicle.
