GR86 Your cars name

Mmm. Tallulah

I like it - I trust you're going to wrap Talia's present and put it under the tree. Maybe don't put her name on it, so the family think it might be for them.
Well... Talia is having a new MBRP Axleback fitted on Thursday.

I could wrap the original exhaust and label it for the Mrs... But I'm not that brave.

Snoopy, after my 1976 Ginetta G21S that was also a tail happy fellow! I had him for13 years and sold in 1999! Rear wheel drive 2+2. I upgraded the engine to 125bhp with Holbay. The GR86 is just like an upto date G21 but still has the same fundamentals!

I was having a look at this thread last friday thinking, "who names a car? Mine would only get a name if it was especially funny."

Cut the weekend. While driving along with my wife I'm playing my usual game of calling out number plates that say funny things, when she says, "does that mean your car's name is Sexy?"

Yes, the last three letters of my reg are SXC. I've been hoisted by my own petard.

now whenever I see my reg plate all i can think of is this mighty car mods song....

We started with the reg, but the HEU at the end made it sound too much like vomiting.

Then got to Black Betty.

But it sounded a bit too dirty.

My wife really wanted to keep Betty for some reason.

Our last Rottie was called Pikku (Finnish for little).

Our current Rottie (we went for a GR86 specifically to be able to put her on the back seat) is called Lilla (Swedish for little).

Then it all fell into place - Lilibet.

I was half expecting the song I’m too sexy by ‘ Right Said Fred’, given that the Lyrics (at 1:29 in the link) declare about being “too sexy for my car…too sexy by far” 🤨

Magnetite grey = car is called Graham. My rule has always been the first letter of the colour is the first letter of the name.

Blue Fiesta: Bruce. Bruce Almighty, as he handled anything you could throw at him and did it with a smile.

Blue Polo: Bernie. No idea why, liked the name.

Red i30N: Reginald. Reggie the Red Rocket because he was fast as hell.

Orange Seat Leon Cupra 300: Orlando. Orlando Schmidt as he’s Spanish but has German heritage.

I looked up the performance figures, and the 0-60 I read was incorrect - it's faster than it said. It's a chunk heavier than the 86 though.
Off the line performance will be relatively not as good in a powerful fwd car vs rwd.
I should imagine its midrange performance is much stronger tho...

Correct! First and second gear are honestly quite comparable, but once you’re into third the i30N would walk away from the GR.

They’re both great cars however!

I know we're off topic here, but the topic is silly anyway :D

Fun little drive of the two cars (not sure it means much)

Agree. The i30N is a great car. I had the Kona N and compared to my GR86 it was an absolute monster, with more driver aids than you could shake a stick at. That said, I actually enjoy my 86 a little more given it needs more driver input. I do however, miss the plethora of options, eLSD, launch control and the barmy big red NGS (boost) button.
