Your new GR86 causes chronic plantar fasciitis which you can only associate with lifting your right leg in at an unnatural angle to avoid kicking the sill when getting in the car 🥹

Bloody agony.. Hopefully it’ll wear off

Think I may need to pitch a product idea to TRD for a new accessory given the obvious demand in this thread 🤔

I've had that in my left foot for nearly 4 months and it makes walking quite painful. If it's down the back of your leg though it could be Sciatica? For me that would be a sign that my back was gonna go soon if I didn't watch out

You didn't partake in the mandatory Toyota stretch training?! :p

I was going to consider how easy or otherwise it was to enter the car but when I was showing the car to the parents in law I had my back turned for a moment and quick as a flash my very elderly MIL had inserted herself into the seat (and subsequently got out again) so I had no excuses from that point onwards..

I have had pain down my right leg.. So could be sciatica.. I’ve had a few weeks off the bike and I normally do around 32 miles most weekdays… So it’s made me seize up

Being mobile is no guarantee of safety. I managed to tear the muscle in one of my calves pushing the bike back up to the top of a trail (mtb of the Amish variety not electric I hasten to add) last weekend and am hobbling about now as a result. I’ll concede I’m the oldest in the group I ride with but it’s not any less embarrassing!

I broke my leg and dislocated my ankle last year playing football, and spent the next two months being told by everyone I met exercise was bad for you 🙈

I’ve been lucky really, a catalogue of horrible breaks and injuries this year in the group of friends I ride with. Either way I’d sooner risk a trip to the hospital as an occupational hazard of being outside vs creating an increasingly large dent in a sofa cushion staring at the idiot box.

Don’t let it put you off 😅 honestly the risk varies based on how and where you’re riding. If you stick to plodding on green and blue trails the chances of coming a cropper are relatively slim. Only one of the injuries was a daft tumble the rest were pushing the boundaries on jump and DH trails.

Also don’t have to put your safety in the hands of dimwitted and distracted drivers like the roadies have to contend with either! 👍🏻

I’m just getting into mountain biking and trail riding.

Kind of wish I didn’t open this thread. 🤣
You’re much safer on a trail.. In December 2018 on my road bike on a local A road I crossed a roundabout with two onward lanes and a complete psycho (in a Toyota funnily) went crazy because I’d “undertaken him”.. Swerved towards me twice and wiped me out the third time at 32mph according to my GPS.. Broke my collarbone in three places , broke two knuckles on my hand and left me full of cuts ans bruises on the road… smashed my helmet also so I’d never ride without one now

He stopped up the road and came running back and I thought “fair do’s he’s coming to help me”… wrong, he came back to give me a load of abuse in the road..

He stayed and when the police and ambulance arrived they had to treat him for shock too.. I almost got helicoptered to a trauma unit because of my BP but I eventually went by road..

A year of recovery and legal chat and the guy went to court and got 6 pts and a £600 fine.. he could have got something similar for littering

Thankfully I had some Good Samaritan witnesses but no video..

Now I ride mostly on cycle paths

I’ve never owned a road bike but the times I cycled on the road a few years ago to get to local trails the alarming frequency of oblivious close passes and deliberate aggressive punishment passes by drivers put a halt to that.

I don’t ride anywhere on the road under any circumstances now for fear of a similar incident taking place. Horrible turn of events and utterly ludicrous penalty for the driver who could well have killed you. Sorry to hear what you went through and glad you lived to tell the tale!

Your comments reflect exactly how I feel - from the trails I’ve ridden already, I feel much safer and happier cycling there than on the road. Even just poodling across the fields near where I live is so much more peaceful. Wish I’d done it years ago!

The year layoff was an opportunity to switch to a recumbent bike as I’d always had the urge to try one.. I wouldn’t go back to a diamond framed bike now

The compo more than paid for a new bike but I’d still prefer to have never come across the t*at on the road 😬

I came to conclusion that I’m starting to get old when I pulled my back getting out the car last week.

I pulled my shoulder and got a significant pain in the neck pulling out of a junction in my Yaris* last week.

The pulling of the shoulder came from the turn of the wheel and the sharp acceleration.

The pain in the neck came from the ear bending that the missus gave me from accelerating hard out of the awkward junction...

Visibility left was poor and she said "OK, clear to pull out... ... ... if you're quick". There was just enough concern in her voice that I thought I needed to get a wiggle on. Apparently I misinterpreted.

* Hope it's ok to stray over in the GR86 zone :-)

They’ve always looked a bit unstable/odd to me but I’d be curious to try one. Similarly fat bikes seemed to be a fad a few years back and never had a chance to have a spin on one of those either. So many different options now to choose from and N+1 is a dangerous affliction!
