I was in the dealership this morning for my safety recall and 2nd 6 month safety check. They had a Yaris Hybrid GR Sport in so I had a nose around.

They have lifted most of the interior from the GR Yaris, including the steering wheel and start button. The bloody cheek!

Even put GR logos on the seats. They’ll be slapping it on lunchboxes next.

Good to see the OEM armrest is a lot worse than the third party one I bought.

You do know that the GR Yaris is derived from the standard yaris? GR Sport is branding, similar to MSport AMG and R line

I don't mind if they slap GR on a tin can. I am interested in what it is, not what it's branded like. I don't care this elitism shit like, ooh only "real" GRs should be allowed to carry the logo...

So let them do it. It fuels money and attention for GR products and development.

Ferrari gains more through selling merchandise than selling cars. That's why they can develop Ferraris and run a formula 1 racing team... 😉

Agreed, at least to a certain degree! I dislike when automotive manufacturers ramp it up so much that
non-carpeople get confused when buying cars.. I've heard things like "I drive an Audi S3" (when it is actually an S-Line product) a bit too often. However I don't really care that much if they water down the badge as long as the real gems stay around.

Every BMW is an M sport these days and the GRY is so bespoke that it's hard to get it mixed up with the standard one even though the standard one looks quite like the GRY from some angles :(

Saying that, I really hated it when they put the 306 GTi wheels on the D-Turbo.; I will never forgive Peugeot for that one.

Saw that one the other day when mine was in for it's first service and recall can't say I was a fan. Got to go back in sometime this week because the snapshot they took for the recall wouldn't upload to Toyota because it was corrupted :oops: I will have another proper look then

I agree with that an outstanding feature of a product should not be washed out by inflationary usage. Features exclusive for a specific product like special colour for a car (Championship White, Type R) can bring special appeal. But GR sport and the GR logo is just a branding. Actually I would be pleased if they wouldn't slap it onto every free space in the GRY. In the bumper? Fine. One or two interior like on the seats. Well okay. But the logo on the start button is just too much imo. 🙄 😅

I think we’re in agreement then. But it was said in jest, I don’t really care. And I understand that the halo effect on shifting a few more shopping trolleys is where all the profit lies, not in selling the halo products.

Honda never slapped the Type-R badge on anything other than a Type-R product though. Halfords did, but not Honda.

No they called it type S.

Type R > Type S > Sport

GRMN > GR > GR Sport

RS > S > S line

And so on.

GR isn't widely know so it needs to be out there, but at the same time if sits on every second Toyota, it will be known but not for what is actually is... It is a balance I suppose.
I don't think I care much, other then that if I ever sell it, I want at least that the potential buyers know what it is....

I bet this one has heated seats and an intercooler spray though:p

I saw one in a very light grey last time I was at the dealer - thought the colour looked nice on it tbh
