GR Yaris YARIS GR CONFIGURATOR NO LONGER AVAILABLE

There are so many members who have been through the painful wait in receiving this little gem, but I've not seen any post that say's "it wasn't worth the wait".

Not many cars I really like the look of pass the 'don't drive your heroes' test, and survive an eighteen month wait.

I think as soon as you drive one, you realise how special it is... to be honest, I did numerous test drives as well which helped keep it fresh in my memory.

Every time I get out of the car, even on a little gentle drive I feel like I've driven something special.

I even managed to fit a bale of hay sideways in the boot the other day, so when it's in van mode it's slightly more practical than I was expecting too.

Is it confirmend somehow with a ZF Auto Box? They usually use Aisin? My dealer has definitely confirmed that an automatic version is on the horizon.

Little bit odd with an auto, although good for those which for various reasons cannot use the left leg and still love to drive.

Thing I've seen mentioned is borderline semi auto box... backwards for an upshift, forwards for downshift.

But if the GR Yaris is totally gone from the configurator, I dunno.

They've long been using GR Yaris for development, for not just Yaris bits ... in reality testing the gearbox in a Yaris vs a Corolla for the base stuff likely makes a lot of sense. That said, if it fits in a Yaris and they do factory fit it for Corollas well... someone could likely retrofit it, the platforms are almost identical.

I would be very surprised if we see an auto version. What would be the point for Toyota? They can’t make them quickly enough anyway, unlikely to be very profitable (if at all) and they’ve almost made enough if homologation still has any relevance . A fantastic PR job for Toyota and the GR sub-brand. Job done.

Further update if you now got to new cars on the Toyota website and select sports it says “3” click it and it says 2 cars and the 86 and supra are shown. Yesterday the Yaris was shown despite the configurator being removed.

When you go to the Yaris page from external link the catalogue doesn’t exist.

I was at the main dealer this week as the car was due its 6 monthly check and the radar recall.

Had a coffee and a chat with the sales manager, they’ve heard absolutely nothing official from Toyota UK. But they have noticed the same as us with regard to the configurator.

They only have a handful of GRs still to arrive and handover. So it’s fairly clear what’s probably happening….

Any delivery mileage cars they sell go out at £39,995 and don’t get advertised as they still have a long waiting list to start contacting.

I was told that low mileage cars with no modifications are still in very high demand.

We've had a couple, more so in early 2021.

A couple saying it wasn't refined enough, others that you really need to be on the limit to get the best from it and the classic that a Mazda 2 was a better car. :censored:

Hmm what makes a better car is entirely subjective though unless we're talking entirely about objective traits such as performance only.

My girlfriend thinks her 2014 1.4 i30 is a better car than my old RS Mégane entirely because it was bigger inside.

Just as an update as I posted this elsewhere:

The highest run number we've seen delivered is just shy of 22,000 so 3,000 cars left to build/deliver of the initial proposed run and I believe it was around 750 cars built per month which ties in with Feb/March final cars delivered which has just been confirmed with a KB6 order on this forum with a Feb delivery date. So possibly the line closing in Jan, would tie in with Toyota UK removing the car from their website.
