GR86 Winter Tyres & Wheels

An insurer would have to demonstrate tyres were a contributing factor to be able to refuse indemnity for a claim [to pay].

Tyres which fail to meet minimum legal tread depth requirements might and I would stress “might” give insurers grounds to reject an own-damage claim.

However, the insurance ombudsman would probably still favour the customer unless the insurer can prove there’s been a demonstrable blatant disregard for maintenance and safety.

225’s on original rims of no consequence.

If rims are being upgraded it would be prudent to advise your insurer.

For anyone interested, National Tyres have 20% off four Goodyear, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Avon or another brand I have never heard of, tyres at the moment.

I got over £100 off four 215/45/17 Vector 4 Seasons. They are going on a set of after market alloys that were on a Subaru Outback.

I have been considering a set of winter wheels/tyres but I am a bit clueless about wheel sizes, stud patterns, and all the other numbers that go with them. I saw some used 17 inch 5x100 Imprezza wheels as per the photo, what other info do I need to find out if they would fit? And would them mot having pressure sensors mean a constant warning on the dash? TIA

Im no expert but Width 6-8inch, centre bore 56.1mm or bigger & offset 40-50mm should be fine, tpms will show a small warning sign if its not there, no more annoying than the hill assist light

This webpage might help you. It lists vehicles with the same PCD and centre bore as the GT86. And it gives the offset for each model. Not sure how accurate the information is though... So do your own checks!

And this one estimates the clearances etc around any new wheel/tyre set-up.

Both are links that have been posted by others on this forum. They helped me with my decisions.

Nice one, four Goodyears inbound. Putting them on the stock rims, need to find some nice rims to chuck the PS4's on in the new year.

An update on the CC2's in stock size if anyones interested after approx 1200 miles on them.
Obviously no snow but Im very rural and in that cold snap we had a point where the water drains off the fields on a part of my journey which is in the shade all day so it created some slush and ice and its downhill and a very sharp right then left...obviously engine braking but the fronts gripped up brilliantly, nice little kick out once we were changing direction!!
Plenty of muddy verges out my way and have to a couple of times put a rear wheel where I wouldn't want to but the tread pattern is spot on and on PS4's I would have been fooked!!
And the icing on the cake now Im used to how they react in most conditions, damp greasy slip road at 6am off A road which leads to a tight opening left and into a flip flop left right roundabout which is not to tight...anyhows had a 911 70 plate squirt past me on the small 300 yard or so straight...left braking a little late to catch up and fronts were totally dialled in on braking and drove round him the long way round upon which when we hit the straight he disappeared !!
Very very impressed with the CC2!!

Happy with studded Pirelli Pzero 205/50/17. It feels more solid than for instance conti friction tires I had previously -> more comfort in steering + better feel on the limit. Conti was bit more vague, maybe sloppier tire body.

800 miles on the Vector 4Seasons and quite a fan, even if they're all-seasons on a sporty car. Made easy work of the foul weather driving up the road the past 24 hours.

Same here 2k now on the vectors and there great. There the way to go for winter. What pressures are you running i am on 34 all round thinking of trying 36. On stock wheels

Also on 34 all around, quite happy.

Running GYVr 4seasons on stock rims in slightly bigger size 225. Inflated to 36psi all round. No side stepping even in cold, wet conditions.

Could the tech savvy tell me if these wheels and tyres would work without mods on the GR86?

“Perfect for your Impreza, Forester or Legacy.

Size is 18x7 J55 (5x100 stud pattern)

Fitted with Bridgestone Blizzak 225/45R18 tyres”

Using 'Will they fit.com' I got the following result:

There looks to be a fair bit of tyre 'flare' with that set up ie., a wider tyre on a narrower rim. Although it seems on paper to be 'a fit', I'm wondering if a tyre centre would actually put them on. You've also got a significant speedo error at 4.62%, albeit in the safe direction. Doesn't look like any spacers would be needed at only 0.6mm closer to the suspension, although the rim will be sticking out 13.4mm less.
Maybe ask a local fitter if it's doable?
