Cars from at least 2 if not 3 ships have all landed, some several weeks ago, delivery dates seem to be passing despite cars having arrived.

I’ve not yet seen a uk roadtest or car on the road. Does anybody have any insight to share?

I bet some people know something about it on here, but for some reason they don't want to share it - so the terrible Ordering experience we had so far doesn't turn into an even worse one.🙄

It also seems to be very quiet on any new cars going into ‘Build in Progress’, you’d think we’d be seeing a least a few every couple of weeks, but maybe it’s all done in batches. Makes you wonder how much of this is actually automated, and how much relies on someone checking a spreadsheet and updating a system when they get around to it.

That's what it feels like to me too. I'm off the next 2 weeks and can't remember why I booked them off. Partly to use holidays up but also because it was a theoretical period the car could turn up as someone mentioned 3mths at one point. Really thought we'd have more info by now.

I asked Toyota Online this a couple if days ago, their reply said it'd be worth the wait but I can cancel if I want i.e. they didn't answer the question. They refused to give an ETA for cars that have been sat at Derby/Portbury too.

Confirmed, cars are blocked from sale / delivery as flagged pre sale status. Supposed issue within Europe that is also impacting UK cars, toyota dont want some being released in individual markets.

Cars will be 2 weeks from their release in Derby, delivery dates slipping by a day per day at the moment - my car in derby since 7/7 but now will be at least 27/7 at the dealer.

My gut feeling is there is an issue that has been flagged, they are rectifying after build in derby so no cars getting released yet but this is also holding up new cars going into build as they want the fix before building. That’s my feeling anyways seeing as there has been a quiet period on cars moving into build.

Had a call from my dealer today. Mine was meant to be with them on the 17th of July but has now slipped to the end of the month. His reason was that they are going through ‘homologation’ but had no specifics. Not particularly surprised by the delay, will just wait and see!

Interested to know how you have confirmed this?

@Bennno is right - the cars are not yet ‘released’ by Toyota to be prepared ahead of delivery to dealerships. Once this is given the green light, they will join the queue in Derby and that work will take a couple of weeks to complete. Once that is done, they’ll need to fill a transporter before sending them out to dealerships.

Then the dealerships will scratch the paintwork, drill squiff holes in the bodywork for number plates, let one of the younger sales lads take their girlfriend out in it for a drive-thru Mickey D’s... and then call you to collect the car after they’ve increased the finance rates.

So there's hope then? !

I don't think that is the case. There is a lot of speculation flying around. Its quite clear both from personal experience and others here that Toyota dealerships do not have a clue as to why they are being held.

It's not isolated to the UK. There are owners of 2 cars in Switzerland and 1 in Spain, all who have physically seen their cars, are being held at dealers for unknown reasons. There is at least one black car in Belgium which has been released into the wild and is owned by a customer.

I've read it's an issue with the brake actuator, software, speed limit identification. Could be because you can't insure it yet? Probably administrative Who knows.

GR Yaris had a similar delay for the early cars and was to do with the type approval certificate however doubt that would be a Europe wide issue?

What would you all do if Europe and the UK refused to approve the GR86 for release in the UK and Totota put them back on the ship and back to Japan/America?

From the German forum:

There at least two insiders there, who know what's going on, but are not Allowed to talk about it.

What they said: Toyota europe ordered the wrong spec/trim from subaru because at that point it was not 100% clear, which spec was needed.

Now they have to do 3 changes on the cars, but wait for parts from subaru.

Ooh, does this solve the mystery of the missing auto dimming mirrors and parking sensors (and something else) ?

That's interesting and would explain the delays. Sensors I'm not bothered either way since it had a camera and is a small car to maneuver.
