GR86 Who's GR86 will be a garage queen?

Garages are looking great guys (y)

After a month of being car-less, the inevitable mountains of kids crap has moved in to mine! 😭

Looking good 👍, what floor paint did you use? I used Ronseal Diamond Hard and it was a PITA , stired the life out of it but kept get different shades even after 3 coats 🤬 Used it before and was ok but this time felt very “watery” and VERY inconsistent colour finish ☹️
Polar. Went with this as a work colleague did his the same time and was happy with it.

Went on fairly easy, two coats and was consistent. Best to roller it on. You can brush but there's more a sheen when you brush as you work it more. Wall paint is one coat Dulux Weathershield for the outer wall by the window and the back wall, then all of it with Leyland trade white from Screwfix.

”Uncle F’esta” isn’t a Garage Queen but his living accommodation is looking a lot better these days, until he becomes a “Trade In” , at some undetermined date 😉

That's a smart looking Fiesta. Colour suits it I think.

Garage looks amazing. My garage is an embarrassment in comparison. I've got fitness equipment, my partner's horse riding paraphernalia, cases of unusual independent small batch IPA and the entire Warwickshire population of spiders fighting for space.

Thanks @Silver Fox , it’s actually my son’s first car , he bought it 3 years old with 3 miles on , I bought it off him with 55k on 18 months ago when he bought a Fiesta Tango Edition 👍 it’s now got 60.5k on and is ok for running about 50mpg and zero VED 😊

I have “Lighting Corner” in the garage which the CEO has acquired in the garage for all her work stuff , but she does keep it tidy without being prompted 👍😎

So I had a few issues with the Ronseal Diamond Hard floor paint , no amount of stirring would stop white streaks appearing in the paint , and despite rollering it to death the finish was patchy. I sent a complaint to Ronseal who said pigment separation is normal and to always stir with a “flat stick , wooden spoon or spatula“ whilst all it says on the tin is “give the paint a really good stir” (no mention of what with) which I did. Bottom line they apologise and offered A refund of the cost of another tin if I sent a photo of the invoice, which I did. So whilst not 100% happy with the finish , I’ve learnt how to mix a tin of paint (after 40 years of never having had a problem) and got another tin FOC after making a polite but valid complaint. Happy with customer care given by Ronseal 👍✅

(y) not a bad result.

In my last place I painted the floor and found it always lifted after a while so I moved to floor tiles in the new garage and wouldn't go back to paint again.

I see you put mats under the car tyres which is a good shout.

I’ve used every sort of floor paint , including epoxy 2 pack. Hot tyres will win the battle between paint and floor every time. 4 cheap rubber door mats do the trick and also catch a lot of 🤬 that inevitably drops off tyres / wheel arches.

Tbf, my floor tiles have still stained where the tyres end up. I'll probably swap them out for black ones if I ever get a delivery date for this car!

Are you using the plastic ones which click together like a jigsaw?

Yes, from memory they are the recycled ones from Ecotile. I had a nice flat floor to start with and they do look smart when they first go down but they've definitely stained in places on the lighter grey tiles.

My concern was water getting below through the cracks and creating a damp layer, I used to use a dehumidifier in winter , but these days looking at the Smart Meter readings it would actually double our electricity bill 😳 so I’ve got one going cheap if anyone is interested 😂

Im lucky enough to have a garage queen for summer days and trips, the GR86 is meant to be a daily to replace an aging 320d on the basis i've been looking for a number of years for a manual, coupe with driving dynamics and good looks - its taken a while so while I really want to keep the 86 pristine, it feels one of the last chances to truly enjoy a drivers car over the next few years, so with a 10 year warranty it might/hope to be the car I keep forever. Maybe one day it'll retire from a daily and be a 2nd car for non commuting... the other thing i considered is if i have to go back to office commuting regularly, to keep the 86 as a daily non work car and buy a cheap golf diesel for the commute.. :)

Clearing the garage out this weekend for the arrival of the GR, maybe... hopefully... fingers crossed...

I've been toyless for a while, the family have taken advantage.

Wifes car will be kicked out.

Wifes junk removed form garage.

Kids junk removed from garage.

Dust, and remove spiders. My garage is usually tidier than my office.

Might splash out for a Toyota soft car cover, and some GR artwork for the walls.

Excitement is building for the last car I'll ever buy.
@TFP555 is the garage still cleared out ?

Lol no

My daughters car sneaked in there, sons weights bench as well.

But I'll be clearing it this Saturday.

Any news on when yours arrives?
Todays phone call reckoned February, but according to 'My Toyota' it's not entered the factory yet, so I'm unconvinced
