GR86 Where does the petrol cap fit?

Hi All,

Has someone figured out where the petrol cap fits when you are filling up?
I normally just have it hanging by the plastic loop on the door cap.
Is the whole petrol cap supposed to fit into the door cap somehow?

There's a holder on the back of the fuel door.
