GR86 What size human can you fit it the rear seats?

So the GR86 isn't a choice made of practicality, but it does have +2 seats in the back, and I'm wondering who could realistically use them (ie, could my children fit in the back).

I'm only 5'8 and wife is 5'6, so if the front seats are forward ish, what height kids do you think would fit ok in the back?

I've been 4 up quite a few times now and I think that the biggest I've had in it were me (6'), front passenger at 5'11" and the two in the back were about 5'10". All men. It can be done, just not very comfortable and I'm more forwards than I'd like to be, but doable. I regularly use it 3 up and my daughter at 5'5" fits comfortably enough behind the passenger seat if it's pulled more forward than usual.

Blimey, that's a squeeze. But handy that it can be done if required.

That's really handy - my daughter is never going to be more than 5'1, so being able to use it with her and her brother is very useful.

All I have to do now is buy one. The dealers are probably offering large discounts to shift them, right?

Wrong, no discounts- the recent bunch is £2k more than the first orders. I assume you were being jocular.
 
Yep I have had the grandchildren in the back seats one and three year old with there car seats fitting in the Isofix easily and the then ,y Grandsons of 11 and 9. I was at the BMW dealer yesterday and sat in the the new M2 very nice it is too. I am 5 10 and if I put the drivers seat in my correct position there no leg room at all in the rear. Surprisingly it just the Same as the GR despite the reviews saying it has usable back seats and the same magazines say the GR are useless. You can of course pull your seat a bit more forward than normal and get someone in. Of course if your 6 foot 2 you won’t be getting anyone sitting behind you. You can though get a comfy driving position whatever your size
 
I struggle with my two in there for long distances. I have an 8 year old and a 5 year old.

There is no leg room behind me and I am not tall. So I put one in the passenger seat with it pushed far forward and then one behind that. But it’s a faff to be honest and they do complain. They prefer my little Fabia that I only use when I don’t want to worry where I have to park, or do a tip run.

I'm about 5'8 with my 7 Yo behind the passenger seat I definitely wouldn't want to sit in front of her for any length of time.

They're both much more comfortable in the Yaris. 4 up in that easily.

What do you count as 'long distance'?

Yeah it's obviously not ideal, but handy to be able to fit them in when needed.

Yeah, a hatchback is obviously going to be easier. I'm not after a sportscar with the idea regularly using the back seats, but it's handy if we can use them on the occasion that the family car is unavailable.
 
In the predecessor GT86, when the alternative was walking several miles, I've fitted, read as folded, two 6'3" behind each other on the passenger side. Behind me 6 foot and myself 6'1". Four up tall persons, only for emergency use but good to know it might be possible....

That has to be a modern day torture device. I remember squeezing in the back of a 206 CC and thinking it must be illegal!

Yeah for that use case I expect it'd be just fine.

As a 3rd car we just haven't needed to try and squeeze 4 of us in there as yet. For me and the 2 kids it's no issue but only as the smallest can fit behind me in my normal driving position currently.

I'm mostly thinking of when Mrs T is off with the family car, and I might need to get both kids in - but they can go one behind the other, so passenger seat quite far forward - and they're both small. So it can be done when necessary.
 
Depends on how small they are but it is worth reading the manual to check you're happy having one in the front seat.

You can't disable the front airbag like you could in the GT86, Yaris or Supra and it is worded quite clearly that you shouldn't put child seats in the front.

I looked into it quite a lot before my car turned up and nearly cancelled because of it.
