GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Racked up a couple hundred miles this weekend. First proper blast on my own yesterday on some good and fortunately quiet roads and out with SWMBO today for a good run.

Needless to say I’m absolutely loving it, still running it in so looking forward to getting past 4k but even still it’s great fun. 😀

Delighted that SWMBO also enjoyed it today as it’s a long drive to Silverstone to JapFest from here and even longer to Switzerland for a holiday later in the year! 😂
Doing both those runs too. Thinking of disabling the sound box thingy for the Euro holiday though

Took a nice (albeit fairly brief) drive this morning. Quiet dry country roads. This is where the GR86 excels, I think. Lovely to drive and I do feel privileged to have it.

You'd have to be a blithering idiot to want to get rid of it.

One specific observation today - now I have done a few more miles (3.3k), I'm marvelling at the superb gear change. I liked it when I got the car, and it seems to have bedded in really nicely.

Saw a few nice cars on my travels - immaculate early Golf R32, MGTF, MG Midget, GR Yaris, amongst others.

I gave the car a clean this afternoon. I hadn't cleaned it for about two months. Used Poorboys wash and a quick coat of Autoglym Aqua Wax when drying. I noticed no ill effects (swirl marks scratches etc.) following the post-service dealer wash a couple of weeks ago.

Finally, I touched up the rim of one of the wheels with some satin wheel paint (as Katy Perry almost sang, I Kissed a Kerb (and I Didn't Like It)). Seems OK but I'll have a better look tomorrow when it's fully dried and it's lighter.

100 mile round trip from Birmingham to Powys Castle in Wales.

Drove just for fun to get out of the city and onto some sweeping country roads - such a joy in this car!

I used this old evo article for inspiration. If you can recommend sources for short fun driving routes I’d love to hear about them.

Cheers for the link, most timely as I'm off to Wales next week!

I enjoyed the EVO article. Ford Racing Puma is a cool car no doubt. Quite a bit in common with our 86s - light weight, great handling, modest power (relatively), limited numbers, future classic!

Yes @Sonic kindly turned that off for me a few weeks ago and I’m preferring it off so far. SWMBO really didn’t like it on the test drive, I think the decibel level just increases too much at a certain point and it becomes too obtrusive.

It gets better with a modified exhaust too…
Was that the unplug or the disable via a laptop approach to disabling the sound box thingy Sonic? - I will remember it's technical term one day. 🤔😁

I suppose a kiss is different to a rimming? 🤔😁

I thought that so I double checked, but it was red, turning on the rev limiter makes the dial orange. Also, this happened only after I drove from the dealership back home, I'm pretty sure on the drive back it was normal.
I saw this twice in the last few weeks, each time the car had been started after sitting in the freezing cold. It went away back to normal rev rev limit after driving half a mile up the road. The blue light for engine temp was still on when the red rev limit changed so is seperate to that.
Other times when started in freezing cold temps I've not seen it happen.

Used my Laptop with ‘Techstream’ to disable the ESG and to enable Window control from Keyfob. Took less than 10 minutes for both.

Will you be taking that equipment to Japfest and accepting beer tokens for the ESG disable?

Did a road trip at the weekend to visit a factory where another lightweight, rear wheel drive, sports car is made..

The GR86 excelled. Things I learned included:
-when a 3hr drive turned into 5hr (with break) one, it's still completely comfortable, no aches at all :O
-the fuel economy, even over twisty B roads, was better than expected - long journeys seem to be key so everything's warmed up and battery full. Car estimated at least 340 miles before 0 range.
-the car's fine when stuck in stop-start traffic - hill starts, clutch, throttle all good
-the gears are a little too close together in ratio for maximum enjoyment - too little time to actually enjoy engine acceleration before going for the next cog. Block changing was actually more fun and probably made smoother progress
-but the close ratios helped on the hills which was probably the first time I've really noticed the torque deficit to forced induction engines
-the brakes can stop the car promptly when an emergency vehicle is tearing towards you on the wrong side of the road - though the car fogged up on the inside immediately after which was odd - don't think we were suddenly sweating that much!
-the only thing worse than a driver who doesn't seem aware of the dimensions of their car is a driver who doesn't seem aware of the dimensions of their SUV.. (all fine)
-I'm awaiting the invitation to become more aware of vehicular velocity, despite sticking to speed limits throughout, due to the sudden appearance of a police operated roadside check next to a temporarily erected 25MPH speed limit on a corner - I have never seen the like before, and passing through on a return journey showed no evidence of it's existence...
-I can see why people love Morgans...

Brilliant factory to visit. I have been twice (about 2015 and 2023) and was amazed at the development in-between. If I hadn't purchased a house in 2015, the Morgan was a near definite. Could not recommend it highly enough.

A total of 330 miles/6 hrs and one minute of driving today. Averaged 38mpg on very mixed roads (including mandatory M6 crawling).

@kalniel is right, the GR86 is a competent and comfortable long-distance cruiser!
Impressive!

After the brim to brim fill up I can report the B-road blasting resulted in.. 37.4mpg - making this pretty much the first car I've had that used less fuel the more fun I had :p
