GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Today I bought one, finally. (Thanks to a fine member of this forum)

A 4am rise for a flight to London and 7hrs driving it home to Scotland means I‘m more than a little tired but first thoughts are that it’s not as loud at 70+ as I remember from my test drive BUT the windscreen steaming up when raining is a major annoyance that I don’t remember.
Perhaps I just need to figure out the right setting but seemed like the only way I could stop it steaming up was by leaving the windscreen button switched on which brought on the AC, weird.

Can‘t wait to give it a proper drive on some proper roads.

AC is perfect for high humidity.. it dries the air entering the cabin..

Just leave the AC on all the time. The effect on fuel economy is negligible, you'll be less likely to have to regas it in the future...and it will keep the glass clear in the wet.

Must say I'm jealous of those who get to own these cars in Scotland or Wales (well, maybe not Wales now :p). Down here in the south east, the opportunity for decent driving roads which aren't congested are few and far between...would love to spend a couple of days mooching around the Highlands.

I think you'll be okay. I had to take apart a GT86 mirror once and even though it's electric it's mounted on a spring pivot, I guess so that if it takes a whack and gets folded in by force it shouldn't damage the mechanism.
Scotland has terrible driving roads, you don't want to come near us. 😁

@Conscript, as @911sse said, absolutely awful up here, you're best staying away. In some places you can drive for miles and often not have the opportunity to cheerily wave at more than half a dozen cars. Yep, think of all that traffic you'd miss down there matey - up here it's just miles of twisty roads, boring mountains and empty green valleys. I mean crikey, getting to Ballater for a Flat White and some Carrot Cake along the Old Military Road means you can't even use cruise control, in 2023 FFS! Best off down there for sure. @911sse and I will 'take one for the team' and suffer this ourselves. 🫣

[Do you think we got away with it @911sse?]

It might the air re-circulation that keeps activating itself, that will always fog up the interior.

I’ll certainly avoid Glasgow given the chance after my experience of driving past/through. The locals seemed to view driving as a form of combat from what I could see.

Unfortunately the weather spoiled what promised to be some great sections of road once I’d got further north. Sadly the road surface (some whopping great potholes around Loch Lomond and on toward Glenfinnan) wasn’t remotely on a par with southern France.

Two worrying moments though. Heading back from C&M there was an almighty wallop from a stone flung on to my windscreen. Careful examination of the screen hasn't revealed any visible chips or cracks thankfully.

Then on the way to my mates an idiot pigeon flew into my passenger door mirror with sufficient force to fold it in. The mirror popped back out and all seems to be working (adjustment etc.), and I can't see any damage to the casing.

I'll have a proper look at the car tomorrow.
I've now had the chance to check the car over and I can't see any chips, cracks or even marks on the windscreen thank goodness.

There was a slight scuff on the mirror from the sodding pigeon, but it had polished out with a bit of Autoglym SRP.

For those (quite rightly) concerned about the welfare of the sodding pigeon,, it flew off seemingly without a care in the world. I'm certain it even gave me a dirty look as it did so.

Nothing worse than being out for a morning drive and encountering pigeons. They seemingly always wait until I've dabbed the brakes or swerved, and then flap slowly into the air.

Conversely, magpies are switched on and are usually getting out the way as son as you're visible.

Pheasants can **** right off.

M8 7am driving is better than the Mulsanne Straight!

Had to remove one from inside the front bumper of my Boxster years ago. Hit it decelerating at 80 with the nose down. £1500 later.... could still smell it round the oil coolers even when I sold it 😁👍

It's deer that are the problem around here - blooming car-wreckers love jumping out on you.

If you’re still talking Glasgow I certainly wanted to have travelled through at 200 mph 😅

To be fair I was on around hour 10 of my journey as I was smashing the trip out in one hit so my level of patience for fuckwittery was nil by that point.

Would that be Surrey & West Sussex?

Had many “holy s&%t deer moments” on early morning drives from Guildford to Chichester - another reason why the performance/width/lightness/fun of the GR86 appeals.

In something bigger/wider/heavier/faster the margins for error are way narrower. Part of my logic for moving to the 86

That and the rossers have zero tolerance for loons driving at three figure speeds. [understandably]

Cowfold way on the A272 is also where you need to be on the look out for Deer, especially early morning.
