I finally gave in and washed it, made all the more fun by a frozen hose and the pressure washer popping its fuse, then i finished running it in

Hmmm, I think I might take off the bumper and have a look now... As with anything, the insurance side of things is never simple. The underwriters will only use their approved repairers to carry out a repair and inspection, in this case it's enterprise (yeah the car hire company enterprise) I'm not comfortable with that. I asked about an independent inspection but it's not something they would entertain. They will however, carry out any repairs if anything was found which is good, so I'm inclined to do that. Currently they have this down as notification as opposed to a claim. Unfortunately non fault claims/notifications still bump up your premium.

Anyway one for another thread. The saga continues.
First thing is to work out what damage there is and the cost to fix it at your preferred repair shop.

If it’s under £500-600 I’d speak to the other driver and ask if he wants to cover out of his pocket rather than involve insurance. After he has paid the excess, lost his no claims and paid higher insurance for the next 5 years it will likely be cheaper if you don’t involve the insurance, also cheaper for you as you’ll be penalised too with higher premiums even though it wasn’t your fault.

If he wants to go through insurance I’d just contact his insurance direct, It’s clear cut his fault so wouldn’t bother to involve your own insurer (if his insurer is co-operative), just present them with the bill and tell them it’s a brand new car and it has to be done at a quality garage of your choice.

You are only forced to use your insurers approved garage (which often are not the best) if it is your fault.

First drive since collection.

Left home in pea soup, parked in public car park, returned to find a water pipe had burst above it and then followed a gritter home…

Lucky I don’t plan on flipping.

Whilst we're on paint... I got mine cleaned and next to eachother finally. When is Pearl White not Pearl White?!

I knew it was notoriously difficult to paint match but pretty sure these are supposed to be the same paint code?

I wondered about how Pearl the white was on the 86, non looked to have that extra level of pearl. Huge contrast.

I too would get it full checked out.
I hit a deer a few years ago any my insurer wanted me to go to their approved garage (fault claim as the deer wasnt in a condition to exchange insurance details!) however I said I wanted it to go to an approved Porsche repair which they said was fine but they wouldnt guarantee the work which was fine as the Porsche approved repair centre provided a longer guarantee than the 12 months the insurer offered anyway.

I believe it is your right to choose wherever you want to go for repair under some EU rule or other they just dont like it, they'll also send out an inspector to assess the damage and sign off the claim but if its in house they just do what is needed without bothering you.

I'd also say from some experience there is often invisible damage as crumple zones etc are all designed to absorb impact and the bumper is nothing more than window dressing. Believe there is also cross traffic sensors in the rear bumper that are sensitive to things.

Given youre already going to be stung for a 'notification' you might as well get it all sorted fully.

As a side note, I realised Im very precious over the 86, not just because its brand new and my first ever new car, but if something happens I dont think I'll be able to replace it!

My first weekend with the 86 and I did no driving :(
I did wash it however, I intended to give it a full sealant treatment etc but the temps plunged so much it wasnt an option. No photos as spent until it went dark trying to get the ice off the drive and pavement, the snow foam froze to be actual snow making it impossible to walk on!

However its off to the PPF guy this evening for the side sills to be done, think its only a matter of time before someone drags their foot across the sill getting in/out so thats the priority.

So while its spotless now, a longish drive tonight will be my first proper outing but also going to cover it in the crap the roads are covered in :(

Many many GR86 owners are keen to see the long awaited advent of spring this year - perhaps more than normal!

Today I dropped my car off at the detailer.
5 Year ceramic, all over, polished, etc etc. and PPF on the front.
Also, they're gonna fit my spoiler for me, since its too cold to do it myself (for the glue/adhesive to work properly).
Plus.... I just ordered my AWE Touring Exhaust... so I'm feeling very poor at the moment.

hahaha

Can't wait to get my car back Wednesday/Thursday... and actually start driving it... I've only done 50 miles in it since I haven't been driving it because I didn't want to damage the paintwork before it got covered... so yeah looking forwards to getting my car and driving it.

Exhaust will take a few weeks to arrive, but looking forwards to that.

Video of the exhaust.

Havnt driven mine for the past 10 days :(

Fitted a phone mount and going to order some of the clips mentioned earlier in this thread for cable management, it was always my intention but glad to see these ones work.

Still on 300ish miles

I got out in mine twice this weekend and I'm still on half those miles! :ROFLMAO:

Been thinking more and more about exhausts. Tempted to just get an axle back for now for a bit more noise, then wait to see what else gets developed for a full system which I'll get with a map once out of warranty.
