GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Actually drove it. Took a good 60 miles to tune back in but amazing once I had again. Too many cyclists about up Rhigos and Bwlch though. Started on the button even though I've not driven it since April. Tyre pressures spot on. I do need to just drive it more as it really doesn't help having long spells a ay from it. Thoughts of selling creep in then when I drive it, I think I never would. Paint being crap aside. Brakes and some form of oil cooler are still on the list. Even on the roads temps for quite high yesterday

Christ. I wish I had such easy access to great roads. I, too, am feeling a pang of regret for not driving mine enough.

It doesn't help that I've recently "inherited" a free car that's been knocking around in my family for years - a 2002 1.0l Toyota Yaris that my sister bought years ago, and which refuses to die.

Spoiler: Non-GR related rambling

I learned to drive in it back in 2006, it then went to my dad to use as a runabout when sis upgraded to an Auris...and now she's upgraded again (after about 16 years with the Auris!) and has given that to dad, he was going to scrap the Yaris...but seeing as there's not really much wrong with it, and it has some sentimental value, I've taken it on as a cheap runabout.

It's battered and bruised - but it has an MOT and does about 58MPG, and it's pretty liberating driving a car which you don't care about cosmetically - especially when a lot of the time, my commute home from the office takes me down tiny country lanes at rush hour which would have me wincing when I'm in the GR.

So at the moment, my GR can exist purely as the fun toy again, which is good especially as it just came back with a freshly painted bumper that I don't want to get stone chipped....but I'm finding it hard to find the time to dedicate to actually just going for a drive in it

This is my issue. I inherited a Suzuki Swift from my parents. It's 18yrs old. Body work is a mess thanks to others hitting it in car parks. Only done 65k and I've done 30k of that. I tend to daily that instead and take it anywhere I doubt the 86 will be safe like some of the hikes we do. Parking is always in a fairly rural, remote area with bad lanes to them. Sunny work commutes I take the Triumph. Work car park is a no go for the 86 now thanks to work deciding to get some beehives. Bee is a nightmare to get off bodywork.

But I will drive it more as I don't like how crap I felt with it for at least 1/4 of a tank. Need to stay in tune. It's a lot like the bike in that sense.

That era of Yaris is bombproof. My mate inherited one from his Nan. we went everywhere in it, including to LeMans and Spa.
His wife crashed it through a fence into a pond. A bit of bodywork repair and it was as good as new. He used it for many more years until he sold it to another friend for £400.
Said friend go side-swiped by a lorry on the motorway and was spun off into the hard shoulder. The Yaris ate it up and he carried on driving it for quite a long time after until he sold it for the same £400 he paid for it, despite every panel down one side bearing battle scars from it's fight with a lorry. It may even still be running.

Yup. It thrives on neglect....my sister wasn't exactly one for rigorous car maintenance, and although dad was a bit better, he's tighter than cramp and kept it running on a shoestring. Despite that, it just kept refusing to fail an MoT, so it soldiers on.

I've taken care of a few little things (broken seatbelt housing, replaced a cracked headlight), and there's an engine light throwing a P0420 code...trying to work out whether it's the cat itself or just the O2 sensor. If it's the former then I'll just live with it as the light isn't an MoT fail, and it's still passed emissions tests since it's been on.

My dear mum despises it and desperately wants it to die, but it won't, I think the old man will keep it for eternity, it even took them to my wedding when their other car gave up much to my mums horror.

I gave it a bit of a boost whilst they were away in Portugal last year

Took mine to Cars, Bikes and Coffee at Lydden Hill Racetrack this evening, £3 entry which included with a free (decent) coffee.
Saw a GR Yaris among lots of other fun and especially retro toys, there weren't tons of cars there, but what was there was pretty nice, including immaculate examples of a Lotus Cortina, Mk1 Escort RS2000, Triumph Stag, Mk1 Capri 3000E, R33 Nismo Skyline, and a mk1 mini with a vtec engine in the boot, wild thing. (o, and some modern porsches, lotus's and ferraris and stuff, but meh ).
Got talking to a guy with a TVR Chimera who has a GT86 at home and was thinking about getting the GR so we had a good chat
It was a decent hour or so there, happens once a month apparently.

My runaround is a 56 plate 1.3 T-Spirit Yaris on 126k. It has had a few replacement components, but nothing major and is reliable. It has no rust on the body, despite a few chips and scrapes. Such is my faith in it that I'm about to give it a set of new tyres.

Swapped Pedders top hats for Beatrush ones (Ohlins R&T) and installed Swift thrust sheets. What's interesting is that front height seems unchanged after this modification which is nice
