GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Well, momentous times comrades.

After three and a half thoroughly enjoyable years and 17k miles with my GR86, I have decided to sell. A thoroughly decent offer from a Toyota dealer via Motorway means the car will be leaving me in a week or so.

I've mentioned in other threads about my job change (eight months ago now) which meant onerous long motorway driving which the GR86 isn't best suited to. Additionally, the sorts of places that I visit as part of my job often have very tight parking (and not always the most skilled drivers due to the nature of the client group/sites), meaning my car has picked up a few scuffs and dings on the way.

Combine this with a planned property purchase in the next year or so (and liberated funds from my fully paid-off car), and it is the right time to move on.

The car is being replaced by a used, modest French supermini for the time being for work duties, with some exciting (and Ms Fox-approved) vehicular plans for after the house move...

I'm gonna keep reading the forum though and may log in to post sh!te occasionally.

Bonne chance comrades, it's been a ride

Aww, shame to see you go Fox!

I'm having somewhat of a wobble myself. My partner and I have just had our first child (2 months prematurely) and although our second car is more than suitable as a family vehicle, I can see myself barely driving the GR, just through lack of time. I managed to get out for a couple of hours on Sunday morning, but that was the first time it had moved for a couple of weeks. I still need it to drive to the office, but even then it's rare I'm in more than once a week. People have teased me about probably needed to get rid of it, and I just laughed at them...but it does seem to be a waste to have driver's car that I'm not driving.

Anyway, hope you hang around. Will you be selling the coat hook on the marketplace?

Congratulations @Conscript on your family news - hope you are all doing well (y)

Ah yes the coat hook - I think I'll keep it and gaze at it wistfully from time to time, reminiscing of a car life well-lived

Its been a pleasure @Silver Fox thank you for all your witty contributions. If I was in your situation I know I'd be doing the say, although c'mon do tell, what is the Mx Fox approved transport you have lined up?

Congratulations Dave, amazing news! I hope baby and the Mrs are doing well.

Congratulations on having your first child. so long as you don't have existing back issues, you should be alright putting a baby in and out of the back for a while but as they get bigger and heavier it can get back-breaking.

Got a backorder of little bits from Japan today. Too hot to bust the torque wrench out but this was a simple install :P

Back issues...
Wasn't planning on having to put him in the GR at all thoughI'm not even sure you could get a baby seat in it. There is someone on his forum who lives around the corner from me, and I've seen a child seat in the back of his, but I don't know about the proper maxi cosy seat base thing that we have for the other car. I am well out of my depth with all this baby lark.

No auto dimming, just an over-priced clip-on wide mirror. Haven't taken it out at night yet to test how good the anti-glare is. Got it mostly to match a set of Suma wing mirrors I have on pre-order. I'm not keen on logo'd stuff but I've got a bunch of TOM'S bits in the interior so it's keeping in-theme.

Here's hoping it doesn't split over time due to humidity like the GT86 mirrors used to. The glass on the original mirror in my car eventually popped off when going over a bump in the road. Managed to get a NOS replacement for a closing down sale for £15.

Congratulations on the kiddo! I will say from giving a friend a lift with her baba that the right child seat can sit perfectly cosy in the back, got the metal buckle things for the seat to clip into securely. Not all seats are equal and I'd imagine it's luck of the draw or careful research or both to whether they'll sit nicely.

We have a joie one that goes on a base. we got a swively base for my wifes car and i put the straight one in the GR86 behind the pasenger seat. It fits in perfectly fine but it protrudes forward to the point where you have to have the passenger seat far enough forwards that you can't take a passenger. The difficult part is manouvering the seat + baby through the door with the passenger seat forwards, and then lifting it onto the base that is mounted onto the back seat isofix points. at 7 months my baby was towering over most babies twice her age (literally - she reminded me of Georgy Dawes) and lifting north of 15kg in an awkward shape (big seat with baby already in) onto the base became a bit to much for my back. I did break my back a couple of years ago so it might not be as bad for others.
I have a company Tesla model 3 now which has taken over daddy baby-ferrying duties. I cant wait until she is a bit older and i can get her in a forward facing seat and she can come out with me in the 86 again. She always seemed happy in the back, and her presence did make me drive a bit more sensibly. When she is old enough to be able to voice her opinion I'd love to know what it sounds like back there when the wastegate opens

Installed new steering wheel from Rexpeed.
Custom made, 2 weeks to arrive from Taiwan.
Easy enough job, watched couple of videos before. Took me an hour to fit from start to finish. Car now easier to get in and out. Wheel is just slightly thicker than original which makes it much more comfortable to hold. Really happy with the purchase.

That does look pretty good. Not sure I've driven a car with a flat steering wheel so not aware of how it feels.

But you have reminded me to get my red mats out and put them in the car.

Flat bottom, it takes seconds to get use to.
Slightly more sporty sensation in my opinion.

I am still tempted a different wheel purely because I would like a perforated finish; find the slick OEM wheel a little slippery sometimes. But I also don't like chunky wheels. I think @Bobocop posted the same wheel a couple of weeks back.

How much are they and are they easy to install? I seem to remember reading lots of horror stories from the first gen where it was very easy to break the clock spring and end up with all sorts of issues.
